Here is the schedule, Sept 28th...a MONDAY, teacher workday, students off.
October 19th, a MONDAY, teacher workday, students off
Jan 5th a FRIDAY, teacher workday, students off.
February 5th, FRIDAY teacher workday, students off, OH, and miraculously, there is a holiday scheduled for Monday the 8th and Tuesday the 9th. Got em 5 days.
So how about you just retract your 'actually' bullshite statement. EVERY "WORKDAY" EXTENDS A WEEKEND, and ONE EXTENDS A HOLIDAY. Just as I stated.

I definitely had bus drivers that would not allow kids to put the windows down, or have food or drink on the bus. And that was in the 90s. I doubt it was district policy, or if it was, most drivers ignored it. But it did happen.
I've also heard the argument before that schools basically run the AC and lights all year long. So they don't save or spend money based on start date.

not true for the school I worked. shite was shutoff immediately after the last day. Some schools run Summer school programs and probably do run their AC but I'm sure they only run it in areas that are being used

I like the idea, as a teacher. It's not logistically possible to do it this year, but it needs to happen. We have so many holidays during the school year that it's ridiculous. It causes the school year to be unnecessarily extended and also hurts continuity. We don't need a week for Mardi Gras AND a week for Easter/Spring Break. Also, these teacher "in service" days are a complete waste of time. I know that I could cover my material in the span between Labor Day and Memorial Day easily. People who scrutinize teachers for days off are going to do that anyway.

I find that the extended summer break results in the kids forgetting a ton of stuff and the first few weeks of the year are spent reviewing and getting them back into the mode.
My kids get off 6 weeks for summer. It is a good break, and they are not totally out of it at the start of the year. They get a few extra breaks off during the year which is nice too.

As a student, I don't remember starting any new school year off without needing a little time to brush up on previously learned skills. Hell, it was even difficult to recondition my hand to write after summer break.
