Lost my brother to cancer last year. My father and my father-in-law both passed away in the last couple of months. My cousin who is my age also passed. It’s been a rough year. I don’t know if I could handle losing my spouse right now. May God bless you and keep you in his hedge of protection. I have to take one day at a time right now. I have some health issues myself that I working through. Hopefully I can get back to some type of normalcy soon.

Just read through this entire thread. There are a lot of good people on the OT - even though we fight like children too often.

I prayed for you Hoova and that you will find comfort in the coming days. Such a huge loss for you.

I have never seen a group of folks who can disagree with so much passion, yet circle the wagons when those same people are in need. It’s actually very touching and restores my faith in humanity.

This is exactly why I joined TG. Haven’t commented in a while, but I read here often. I have never had a group of people support me the way that everyone here did when a hurricane was headed my way and when I had struggles with Covid recovery. I pray for the OP, his children, and that his wife rests in peace.

OP, I just read through all of your posts (busy day at the office). So sorry for your loss - but so impressed with your progress.

I'm wondering, in the very first thread there was a guy who reached out to you about getting together to talk. Did y'all ever meet up? That'd be one hell of a story and would restore my faith in the OT.

Let it be

very strange that this song was quoted. Had an episode this morning. And I would never compare losing a pet to losing a spouse. However, being divorced I do have a GF. Her dog has been in bad health for a while. She has been paying a physical therapist to come once a week. And we have been following the guidance. This morning, things took a bad turn with the dog. It was obvious he was dying. She got the car and I carried the dog down and we went to the vet. As we drove to the vet, "Let it be" came on the radio. The little guy took his last breath right as we pulled up to the vet. Somber day, but glad I visited the OT Lounge today

Glad you're hanging in there. It's truly so hard and unimaginable. Just keep on putting one foot in front of the other. It seems like time goes by so fast, but then it also seems like it was just yesterday. The hardest thing is reconciling that you still can have a good life, but it's just not the one you planned. Prayers for you! It's a hard journey. I've been on it for 9 year this week.

What kind of a person would down vote the OPs heart felt post?

Probably the guy recommending the hooker.

Sounds cheesy but I've found a lot of relief in self-help/grief audiobooks while taking long walks.

Also, not sure if you have a pet, but get a dog.

Hang in there bud. Coming in six years that my wife suddenly passed away. Like you, I will never forget her and can honestly say I have thought of her every day since her passing. Sad thoughts 1-2 times a month but smiling happy thoughts the other days of the month.

I'm a little late to this thread but I'll say I can relate. It gets better. Prayers for you and your little ones. Stay strong brother.

My prayers are with you and your family. It breaks my heart to hear of such sadness. Take it day by day. It’s the only way.

I am sorry for your loss as well. I have attended grief share. They people there were nice but they were all 20-30 years older than me. My kiddos is what kept me going through the first few months. I would be lost without them.

I am sorry for you loss. This is not a club that we want to be apart of. I am not ready to meet anyone at the moment. But I have faith that when the time is right. God will send my children and myself an angel.

I am sorry for your loss. Pets can be and should be like family.

My counselor that I see used to drill in me, "Let it be ... Let it be ..." At first he didn't reveal why would say it ... but after a few sessions, he told me it was from The Beatles, which of course, I recognized.

He then would ask me, "have you listened to the song?" And of course, I would say yes -- heard it many times. He would then later ask, "have you really listened to the song?" It wasn't until 3 or 4 sessions later that I finally understood what he was asking.

If you listen and truly listen to the lyrics in that song, it's about letting go of the things that you can't control. And believe it or not, this song is my go-to song when my anxiety wants to take over. It helps me find peace and comfort.

And for those of you who don't know, Mother Mary in the song is not Mary, the Virgin Mother of God. It's Paul McCartney's mother, who passed away when he was a very young boy.

I am so freaking sorry man. We have 3 kids together and it is tough at times but they are what keeps me getting up every morning. I miss my wife so much as well. If you ever want to talk please feel free to reach out.
