I want to apologize, I was laughing reading your comment and fat-fingered the DV...
For my error I grant you this Gif

I have several friends there and they are as happy as littleneck clams. That article is hyperbolic and all part of the campaign buildup for the mayoral election.
Your friends are becoming more rare all the time. And if they're happy with the way things are, that says nothing good about your friends. The level of depravity in S.F. is atrocious.
It is crazy how some people there get defensive and put up with the bullshite. I caught holy hell from some last weekend when I commented on KPIX's FB page when they posted that video from the BART station. But there were many more that echoed my sentiments that things are about to come to a head. There's going to be a point where the quality of life is just compromised.
And that article is in no way hyperbolic, at all. The number and aggressiveness of the homeless is insane. Half the city smells like piss and shite. One of them was smoking a meth pipe in from of the Civic Hall last year, not ten feet from a cop who didn't bat an eye. There were hundreds clustered, many accosting people just passing by. Anyone that is happy with that shite is an idiot of the highest degree.

They need to just put them all in Alcatraz.

Does nola cater to homeless? Because there are a shitload of them there.
I have yet to find a Cory that doesn’t have a lot of homeless. Especially in the south where the weather is more temperate.

There will always be a few who really got the sharp end of the economic stick and had a financial catastrophe land them on the streets. Its why most communities have homeless shelters just in case of emergencies like that. Usually those people are only homeless for a short period of time.
The problem is that most of the homeless have some serious mental health issues like you said. Even if you gave them a free home they wouldn't stay there. To borrow a line from a classic movie..."their mind ain't right". Expecting them to behave in a rational manner is like expecting a blind person to see. They just aren't capable of it.
We used to put those people in insane asylums. Which, if you ask me, is a lot more humane then dumping them out on the streets to fend for themselves. Well, if you don't want insane asylums I hope folks are happy with having a crazy guy going through your trash and crapping on your front doorstep.
As harsh as it sounds... life would be better for those people if they were on Alcatraz with a roof over their head, meals that weren't scrounged out of a dumpster, and medical treatment. And life would be a damn sight better for the rest of the people living in San Francisco.

Who knew that being OK with people shooting up, pissing and pooping on sidewalks would lead to dirty, smelly streets.
Liberals.

I am visiting San Francisco in November and still looking forward to it despite this thread.

I was there a couple weeks ago. Still a beautiful city. Didn’t see many homeless outside of when we were on embarcadero. I think they go into the BART when it’s hot out.
One of them that we saw tried to start shite though.

Was down there this weekend with my family and a bum popped a squat right as my family and I were walking down the sidewalk.
Your better than me, I would have kicked him over, and dared him to say something.

If we just eliminated the homeless, would anyone even care? Stick them on a boat and ship them off to central america, then profit?

Sadly, they will just raise taxes in hopes to cure this problem.

They walk into restaurants and demand free food or they'll literally take a shite right there inside.
Why can't they let homeless people live on Alcatraz? Just give them enough food and water.

Last time I was in San Fran was for my honeymoon in 2011. My now ex-wife and I stayed in a beautiful ad expensive hotel on Fisherman's Wharf. And the moment we left the hotel, the homeless would be lined up and down the sidewalks.
They were probably told they could beg but couldn't bother people for money, so all of them would just hold their hands out and look down. I didn't really care, but my wife at the time was uncomfortable constantly that we would be hounded for money.
The only time it became really annoying was toward the end of the trip. We were eating some seafood on Fisherman's Wharf and enjoying the day when a group of 3-4 homeless people started coming near us. They waited about 20-30 feet away as we finished our meal, and we could feel them staring the entire time. Sure enough the moment I threw away our food, they pounced on the trashcan to get what I had disposed of. Equal parts sad and annoying.
I honestly don't know how San Fran has gone this long without a major altercation between a homeless person and a tourist. For such a beautiful city, it was just out of control. "Les Miles lost control of the team" out of control.
