"The trash, our homeless, the needles, the drug abuse on our streets, I've seen it all in our city and it's gotten to the point where we need to really change course," Farrell said in an interview. "We've gone away from just being compassionate to enabling street behavior and that, in my opinion, is a shift that's unacceptable."

quote:

"I cannot have my family down here, I can't have visitors. I can, but I don't choose to, have my nieces come here," he said. "It's horrifying for my family to walk down the street here."

I love it.

These people live on fricking Mars. The faith they put in hobos and drug addicts is hilarious. I hope these bums unionize and sue the shite out of the city for discrimination

You mean that catering to the lowest common denominators of society attracts more degeneracy!?

Who would have thought!?

It’s unbelievable that it took them this long to even want to stand up to the problem.

I'd love to see the hoa response and the Nextdoor threads if I just went out and dropped a daily deuce on the sidewalk every morning while the joggers ran around me.

Lawana Tillman, 55, camps out in a wheelchair with friends on a corner they've claimed near Market Street. Most of them have been homeless for years. The women say they welcome help, but haven't seen any offers. "They should first interview us and give us housing," she said. "It would take most of us off the street."

Yep Lawana. That is the solution. You should be given more free stuff.

In the words of Eric Cartman

"You've gotta be firm with these people or they just slack off and be poor forever"

I always thought that angry people didn't exist in a utopia.

If they aren’t actively clearing them out and not letting them set up these enclaves then...kinda?

My sister lives in SF. It’s not as bad everywhere as some people make it out to be, but some areas are horrific with hobos taking over the streets and sidewalks and grass.

It’s still a nice city (nicer than Baton Rouge) but some areas need to be reclaimed.

People are working just to have 90% of their income go to rent in SF and these bums just demand housing in the most expensive city in North America

The problem won't go away until they start arresting the trash squatters and bums who pollute the streets with their filth. I don't care if they have to raise taxes to build more prisons for it but get them off the streets one way or the other.

The first step to fixing this is stop giving so much leniency to the homeless like allowing tent cities and public urinators.

I avent lived there in a few years, however.

I saw the video of all those smackheads shooting up at the BART station over the weekend.

Hard to feel bad for a city that turned a blind eye to the blight for so long.
