Most girl wrestlers match up with boys, otherwise there wouldn’t be any opportunity to wrestle. At any given tournament I’ve been to, there’s about 2 girls per age/weight class. So, either wrestle a boy or don’t wrestle.
Avg tournament is 3 matches.
Some boys refuse and walk away. Truth is, under 10 and at the same weight, the girls have equal chance to win with good coaching.

Am I the only one that didn't know organized 5 year old wrestling was a thing? Never knew this existed.

Saw the video last night on facebook and laughed my arse off. Good for that kid.
Also, I have no issue with a kid wrestling at that age. I started not much older than that. I was in the first grade when I started wrestling. Got my arse kicked for the first year but by he time I got to high school I had excellent technique and was really good at it. If a kid, regardless of gender, wants to wrestle at a young age, then they should do it. It's a great sport.

Why on earth are 5 year olds wrestling
Posted on 12/15/17 at 9:17 am to LSUfan20005
My grandmother was a childhood friend of Babe Didrikson, who wrestled against boys in HS (and boxed as well). Suffice it to say, Babe's brother would not have had to run to her rescue.
So, in some cases it's not a problem, but I do see some of these girls getting brutalized by a more athletic boy, more so because he's terrified of losing to a girl.

What kind of trashy parents lets their girl wrestle?
At 5 years of age?
Against a boy?
And I don't want to hear shite from them when the principal calls to say she got caught at 14 wrestling the BBC in the locker room during gym class

That's because my parents forced me wrestle at 5 years of age, against girls.

Agreed. My son (9) started wrestling this year and it is, by far, the hardest youth sport.
Win or lose, it's all on you - and each match is just as challenging mentally as physically. The amount of character building is impressive.

someone needs to take this video and dub in Stone Cold Steve Austin's entrance music just before the kid runs into frame
