Same with work. Covid brought in remoting and laptops. They now expect you to be available the day after a night after a ravaging hurricane, rare snow days, etc.

Baton Rouge got so fricking lucky with Ida. If she hadn't turned to the NE north of Houma it would have made Gustav look like an afternoon thunderstorm.

I can't imagine anyone following a god that doesn't reign above all else?

Is your god a second tier god?

The worst two for us in Grant Parish that I remember were Hurricane Rita and Laura.
Laura was probably the worst actually.Trees down all over the place,Some 15 trees across the road for a couple of miles leading to my house, some of them large Red oaks and Water oaks.
Me and a neighbor started on our end with chainsaws and tractors. We cleared 9 off the road and met up with other neighbors that had cleared 6 off the road from the other end so we could get in and out.
I don’t know if it was a tornado but couple hundred yards behind the house
in a East to West direction it looked like Air Force had dropped bombs there were so many trees down.
No damage to the house, thank goodness.
On generator power for 9 days.

Rita, most of the damage seemed N and S of my house,Ellick had good bit of damage.
Without electricity for 11 days that time.

Just got to show that Katrina was a man-made disaster for New Orleans. The true victims of the storm were in St. Bernard and MGC.

Ida was the first and only hurricane that legit had me scared. The way the storm stalled and the eye wall sat right over us for hours. I legit thought I heard my roof peeling away a layer at a time, turns out it was my neighbors roof. Thankfully they weren’t home.

Ida was worse than Katrina. That storm was mean and nasty. Did a lot of wind damage.

We were out of electricity for 9 days after Laura. I drive by a house every day that still has a tree through it. The people just left and never came back.

Lake Charles and thereabouts seek to have been screwed. If I recall, there wasn’t much help after. Some felt it was bc it didn’t have the publicity of the Superdome following Katrina. I know Laura was bad in areas. Delta followed and mostly was a nothing if I recall. But an acquaintance in New Iberia died when returning home and her home exploded due to a gas leak.

Ida tore up LP pretty good. I don't recall another storm with such overwhelming local fuel shortages. It was pretty insane.

Yes it was. Had to drive to picayune for gas. Don’t think I’ll stick around for another like Ida.

I definitely recall that Katrina rained and stormed for a lot longer period than Ida, like several days longer. Everytime I think about that it makes me believe that Ida was stronger considering it was more of a 1 day event. If Ida produced the same amount of wind/ rain for as long as Katrina did then it would not be as close of an argument.

I do believe there was a higher power protecting people during Ida. The next few days after the storm I noticed that nearly every house I passed had several trees down around their house and yet I did not see 1 tree on a house. It was a very weird observation compared to past events.

I remember evacuating to my parents' place in Ponchatoula because I thought it would hit more towards Lafayette. How wrong I was.
