Even if I didn't live on this course I would vote yes for this tax on the way to the realtors office to sell my house.
The lower property values hit the whole neighborhood.
its complicated, you don't know the whole story
the harvey side should be a whole seperate discussion from the gretna side its completely fubar

I'm speaking from what I know. Get the frick out. If your neighbors house takes a 50k hit there is no doubts yours will suffer.
Doesn't matter the reason.

its just dumb to expect homeowners who paid 285-300K to pay an extra 100-125/mo to fund a club. most people can't or won't pay his shite.
and guess what happens when you dont pay your property taxes ??

I don't know, man. I have a nice home. My 3 kids have all grown up here. We have a good life. I don't want to see it all go to shite. I just don't. I don't like this plan very much, but the alternative scares me.
Sorry for sounding like an a-hole.

Long time ago, a developer told me to never buy on a golf course.

Where on the west bank is Lakewood?
Yeah I agree, the whole West Bank is quickly turning to shite. All the nice neighborhoods, and there really aren’t that many anymore, are mere islands surrounded by endless waves of garbage.

45 mils?!
Millage rate is the amount per thousand used to calculate property taxes.
The "extra" in this case is $45 per $1,000 of tax accessed value of the house. Note before you do the math and freak out that 45/1000 is HUGE note that most places the taxed accessed value is between 10 and 20% of market value (and I think most LA parishes are 10%). You can see the taxed accessed value and the millage rates for each line item on your tax bill. In any case 45mil is will likely be the largest line item on his tax bill, by a lot.

would suggest you move quickly if it does pass. No doubt they underestimate what it takes to run the place and the thing will go to shite unless someone with actual money steps in.
Ask owners at The Bluffs
This this all of this

In the view of many around here, it's less about the golf course and more about having ownership and control of the land. If the course doesn't make it (entirely possible), the land could be turned into parks and walking trails and the like.

If this thing were to pass, I can just envision the lawsuits that will be filed fighting it. I gotta say, majority vote or not, I would have a big problem with a property tax enforced mandatory membership in a private club. BREC is bad enough but at least it is city wide. This just seems different and damn expensive.

Two largest wastes of land are cemeteries and golf courses.

Course will close in two years. And they will have squat. Hopefully someone bails them out

Not familiar with the neighborhood issues, but this sounds like it is more about bailing the golf course owner / developer out at a generous price than anything else. The JP politicians are not working for you.

Ha ha simonizer you lost.

It's actually a fire sale price for the land and the clubhouse. Can't remember the number but it is well below appraised value. I would rather the residents buy it than some fly by night developer, or some jackass who would put apartments between my back yard and the pond I get to stare at from my patio.
And I fully expect an effort to repeal it in the next couple of years. There will always be that option. People are waiting to see how it develops.

Not to hijack the thread, but what exactly did happen at the Bluffs?
