There are words from Michael Nickelotte's father. He posted these in the Facebook group "In Loving Memory of Michael Nickelotte."

I can't imagine that poor man's pain.

I get how this guy feels. I still struggle accepting that my brother is dead. I don't know how my parents deal with it. Some days to me it feels just as fresh as it did 9 yrs ago

On the opposite side, since my wife passed in June, it has crossed my mind on occasion. While I feel bad for the father, I feel just as bad for the son. Just super brutal for all involved, really sad

Yeah, because trying to make people suffering from depression feel even worse is a really good way to discourage them from committing suicide.

You're expecting an irrational person to think rationally. It almost never works that way. Suicide is irrational.

I'm sitting here and crying like a baby. My son had everything going for him and he took his life in Aug. The man that wrote that hit it on a nail. I feel as if my life is over.

Exactly. You’ve got to have a lot going on upstairs to be able to override your self preservation instincts.

January will be 4 years since my sister's death. There are still days I can't believe she is gone, it's still very fresh in my mind. I've gotten better at controlling my emotions, but it is something that has truly changed my life. I wouldn't wish the pain she must have felt or the pain felt by those she left behind on anyone. It is awful.

My dad has been a downward spiral ever since. I don't think he will ever be his normal self again. He is too far gone. My mom is still full of guilt. It makes me very sad for my parents.

Thanks, but I am ready for my maker. If it wasn't for my wife, daughter, SIL and grandson, I would of called it a day. The pain is unreal.

I have two children and I honestly don't know how I would cope with either one of them committing suicide. It's probably a parents worse nightmare.

My brothers suicide taught me a couple things. No matter how bad things are, there is always a safe way out. People forgive and forget misdeeds. Kids love you no matter what. Things are never that bad to check out. Accept what is going on and find a way to deal with it and move forward. I love my family so much and I would never leave them until God calls me home. I love my brother, but life was never that bad. He had it all, but didn't realize it. Thought he was sparing people some kind of embarrassment. But all he did was cheat us of his life.

Sorry for your loss, fishfighter. I think your son was friends with my older brother and some of his classmates from way back in middle school and little league.

I know things are not easy now. We have been keeping you guys in our prayers. God bless.

IMO, neither you nor I are in a position to make that judgement. Hopefully that is a bridge we won't have to cross.

Fish I am so sorry. I wish I could say that it gets easier but it doesn’t. My dad committed suicide the night before Thanksgiving 2010. We were in the house when he did it. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think of him. It affected our family tremendously and that will never change. Keep your head up and try to stay busy. That’s about all I can offer.
