I’m really not. This year, I logged every hour I have put in. If I consider a 45 hour work week “normal”, I’ve already put in enough time to make up for my Thanksgiving and winter break.
The perks of being a teacher aren’t there for what I do. I recognize it’s time to make a change, and have vented on here about it. It’s kind of a shitty realization, but it is what it is.

You just don’t understand. I use to coach/teach at a big 7A school here in Alabama when I first got into education 29 years ago. 10 Friday night games, 8 Monday night B-team games and was expected to make some Thursday night MS games. Get home around 1 AM Saturday morning to get 5 hours sleep because we have staff meetings on Saturday at 7 AM. Players come in at 9 AM for film session and injury treatment. Players leave at 11 and film work starts for coaches until 5 PM. Back at the field house to finalize practice plans and game plans on Sunday from 2 PM until 6 PM. I loved every minute of it for 13 years and then got burned out. So shut up Danny boy. You couldn’t cut it. I’m not talking about average classroom teachers. College football work has trickled down into the high school ranks.

And a PE coach won’t have a choice. They will be coaching sports. That’s the issue with band, dance, etc. They are involved in UIL and Friday Night Lights regardless. It was a fun ride for sure, but I’ve had a major shift in mindset this year.

Just stop coaching and get some kind of job every summer. School is over at what? Like 3PM? Then you have all of those holidays off..
I had a teacher in HS, dude didn't give a frick about teaching he just did it for the insurance. He owned a funeral home and taught drivers ed. He would take the kids who were driving for drivers ed to his funeral home. One of my good friends at the time had to go drive with him and he took them driving around LSU and Southern and he would yell shite at the girls walking. Then they had to drive to his funeral home in Port Allan.
He mad them go in, through the back. There was a dead body laying out (this teacher was an old black dude).. It was a body of a black man and that dude just passed by and pointed and said "see that man? that's a dead nword".
Anyway, I know this is a typical long, shitty post, but teaching, having other shite on the side and not having all your time tied up made me think of it..

If you are both happily married, adding a HUGE chunk of love to the mixture ain't gonna hurt anything.

I used to have a state job that had good PTO and holiday time off, but man, there was a widespread consensus that we were criminally underpaid.

I’m tired of the 65-70 hour weeks in the fall. I’m tired of working 2-3 Saturdays a month in the fall.
I'm confused
You work these hours because you choose to. You choose to because there is money involved
And to find another career thats pays better, also means youre gonna work long hours there
Your debate is between you, and how much money that you expect you need. More money requires more hours
Thats why entry level people always gripe about the minimum wage. They just want more money, without the extra hours

Not necessarily. A music teacher doesn’t choose to do marching band. You teach in HS, you do marching band. It’s not EXACTLY like coaching and going after a stipend.

I’d take $1500 less, go teach middle school, and gain about 12 hours a week back on average…minimum.

Damn right!! Took me a long time to actually take action. When I started having sleep issues, hands trembling, anger, etc. I realized I was burnt out of the corporate bullshite and toxic workplaces. It was turning me into someone I didnt want to be. I work for myself now. SO GLAD I did it. All the negative health symptoms have almost totally disappeared.

Interesting. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea a couple of weeks ago.

And I’ve dealt with similar before. I had to get on meds to control my stress and anxiety.

Listen to your body. It will tell you truth. The old saying "go with your gut" is spot on.

Need to be in a field where you are not required to coach. At my school PE coaches are required to coach 3 sports, Social Studies are required to coach 2. Math and science teachers are not required to coach
This is part of the reason as to why American children are marginally retarded.

Got out of teaching (pe) and coaching about 4-5 years ago. Best decision of my life. If you want to talk, email me
