Yesterday, a local florist delivery driver delivered Mother's Day flowers for my wife, ordered by our out-of-state son. My wife wasn't home and I was on a work-related call. I answered the door, took the flowers, nodded to the delivery driver, shut the door, and didn't think about it until this morning - should I have tipped the delivery driver? I generally tip pizza delivery drivers $5-$10. It is a local shop and I can drive over and give him a few $$ if that is the right thing to do.

Obligatory "why are we tipping people to do their jobs?" question.

Your son should have. You don't sned a delivery gift and expect the receiver to tip.

But based on your question, I'm not surprised you didn't raise your son to be a non retard

Yes. If you can afford to, always tip delivery drivers.

In this case the person that ordered the flowers does the tip. Generally, it's a line item in the checkout process.

I tip just about everyone, and I would never tip the person who delivered me flowers purchased by someone else. That's strange.

I don't recall seeing a tip line when ordering flowers to be delivered either. Just a delivery fee.

this is hard, because I usually don't have my wallet on me when I answer the door at home, especially if it isnt expected. amd if I do, I don't have cash

I can honestly say I’ve never sned a delivery gift.

People often easily overlook you here but I do too.

Still. The receiver should not be expected to tip in this instance.

"Sorry, your wife died. here are your flowers." Sticks hand out for tip.
