Tip at Carwash?

Does the OT tip whenever you get a car wash? I go to a place named "Auto Indulgence", it's one of those places where they just take your car, you sit in a waiting area, and they call your name when they're done.

I never tip but I always feel like the guy handing over my keys is waiting for something. Am I being cheap? Discuss.

I tip whenever I see a tip jar. Plus when I am getting in my car at the car wash it makes me feel cool to slip them a $5 bill

That's definitely a tip situation.

How much is your car wash? If youre payin $5 for them to just run it through the machine then you're probably good.

If they're vacuuming it out, doing the windows, cleaning the rims, tire shine, armor all then you're supposed to tip you cheap arse.

I worked at one of those places in HS and you're probably the only person they see all day that's too cheap to tip. They see your car pull in and everybody hides until the new guy grabs your car, or whoever gets stuck with it does a half arse job because he knows you won't tip.

So, basically doing what you already paid extra for them to do. I don't go to carwashes, but if I did, I would feel that it is ridiculous that I not only pay extra for the better car wash, but then I am expected to tip more as well.

usually those places have tip boxes, not handing cash to the labor.

when your name is called, you got to THEN walk over to tip box to make sure everyone sees you slip something green in the box.

It's not that much more for what I listed. A lot of those places pay their employees like waitresses, below minimum wage because they're expected to also make tips. If it takes him 30 minutes to clean your dirty arse car and you don't tip him then he's lucky to have made $3 doing that for you when he could've been making money from somebody who isn't cheap.

For a singular event, I get this line of thinking. But looking at it in a broad sense, this argument always bothered me. I have a buddy who bartended in college. He would always make an argument for tipping because of how little the proprietor pays the laborer. I never understood why that was my problem. John Doe chooses to be a bartended to work through college, and I am expected to give him more money because he doesn't make enough? This same guy used to get excited about his "tax free" money he made as well. That is neither here nor there.

Anyway, I guess I am saying I would fall in line and tip because that is how they make their money, but the system is just messed up.

It has really gotten ridiculous. Baskin Robbins even has one. I usually put a $1 in it but last time they didn't get shite. I have had it with getting hardly any hot fudge topping on my sundaes

It depends if you feel that the person went above and beyond to make you car look good. If so, I tip.

I really hope this is what happens. That's what they get for working at a car wash. Poors.
