I have a two year old spec home that has a walk in shower insert that I'm not a big fan of. I was thinking of getting some prices to do it in tile and make it look a little better. What's the going rate for a decent tile shower installed?

Italian marble or don't bother.

ETA: If you're worried about price, you can't afford it.

Make sure you hire someone that know so what they are doing. A Kerdi shower is the best but if you are worried about costs there are other really good cost effective ways to do correctly. Pouring shower pans is a lost art, the old timers are dying off and the new installers just buy styrofoam or use plastic shower pans.

When we were looking at building it was about double the price of man made marble. IIRC about $7500 for the tiled shower. Now take into account that is building out everything not replace

Had our replaced after flood. I paid $4k in material. I do not know what the labor was.

ETE: plus 1K for the door. Forgot that

Just had one done at my house.. was about 4K... Labor and the glass is the most expensive part. We did 3x6 subway side and a framed glass door. Really wanted the frameless door but it was just under a grand more expensive

If you are interested in doing it yourself, which is doable for the weekend diyer, check out the floorelf website. There's a manual you can download that tells you how to do it all, from making your own shower pan to tiling a shower. You'll save a lot of money doing it on your own.

agree with this wholeheartedly. i built ours after the flood. poured the pan and used kerdi for the walls. that is definitely the way to go. i'm pretty sure i wouldn't have been happy with the kerdi floor.

tiling requires experience and great attention to detail. make sure you get references/pictures for the installers previous jobs. the proof is in the pudding.

I'd strongly advise against a DIY if uve never tiled before. It's a hell of a job. Esp floating the floor.
It'll be 4 plus for labor and materials.
