One positive about the younger generation is that they’re drinking less alcohol. Good for them.

That may play a part, but I think this generation is just far more health conscious. Showing them proof that regular drinkers have more cancer and dementia later on is a turn-off.

Another thing to consider is the availability of the THC drinks and gummies that they consider a "safer" buzz.

Worked the generation before with cigarettes, so it's not shocking.

Our social norms centered around drinking is slowly going away

they've also replaced cigs and alcohol with antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds

The same thing could be said about Gen X and millennials, who are on a higher rate of antidepressants and stimulants than ever before.

I don't know, it's way easier to not drive nowadays with Uber. And kids use it regularly.

Back in the day you really had no choice other than have a DD, which nobody wanted to be when I was young

Come again? Depression and anxiety are at pandemic levels these days.

Nothing wrong with a fancy beverage that doesn't contain alcohol, but it saddens me how humorless young people and "progressive" people are. I think it ties back to the misconception that if we would all just behave ourselves in accordance with some expert-crafted humanist code-of-conduct everything would be perfect.

Sorry, Tanner, you can make yourself miserable drinking Soylent and mocktails, but you're still probably going to get arse cancer at 70 and croak at 80.

Hey, if you want to pay exorbitant prices for something akin to some fruit juice and soda, go for it.

Several factors contribute to this shift, including the growing popularity of the "sober-curious" movement

A similar trend, also dominated by young females, has us with a ton of single mothers with mixed race children.

Bingo. Now we just have doctor prescribed coping mechanisms.

Grandpa smoked his pipe or cigs and drank his Old Milwaukee. We pop pills. The moral high ground doesn't exist.

If anyone ever writes a legitimate post-mortem for our once-great culture, the role of both MADD and Tinder will figure in it prominently.

gummies also likely contribute to the decrease in alcohol consumption. I know several folks who once consumed mass quantities of alcohol who know only do gummies.

Look for big liquor (and big Pharma) to go all in on banning Delta 8/9.
