Will this shite, and "influencers," and youtube personalities die out any time soon? Or are we stuck with this? Is this how the world will be for now on? Where completely unremarkable, uninteresting people get really famous and rich?

Not any time soon. If you have young children you know that Tik Tock, YouTube, etc are to them what cable TV was to kids in the 80's. YouTubers are their celebrities.

We were on vacation this summer when all of a sudden by 10 year old daughter saw a girl and started freaking the F out. I asked why? She said "That's so and so! She's a famous YouTuber!!" I'd never heard of this person in my life. I asked my daughter "what does she do?" The response "makes videos on YouTube." I watched some of the videos and it literally consisted of this girl and her husband filming mundane aspects of their lives. Going to the grocery store, cleaning their house, etc.

We ultimately ran into the girl at the resort later on. She was very nice and agreed and took a picture with my daughter. But had my daughter not said anything, NONE of the adults at the resort would have ever known who this girl was. From what I can gather she doesn't have any special skills or talents. She was cute, but not stunningly beautiful. Her appeal appears to be filming every aspect of her life and publishing it for the world to see.

A few weeks later we were out of town and I struck up a conversation with a woman/mom in line in front of me in the hotel coffee shop. As we were talking, up walks John Rahm and give the woman and her little boy a kiss (it was his wife and son). I told my daughter "that guy is one of the best and most famous golfers in the world." She could not have been any less impressed. Now, had it been some rando couple who puts videos on YouTube of them trying out truckstop snacks she probably would have lost her mind.

You are officially an old man. Youngsters care about Mr. Beast and the like, not your has-been celebrities.

Went to a dinner party last week here in LC... one woman there was an "influencer", my wife told me. I was like wtf do you mean?

It means if that ho whipped out a phone and held it up, you immediately tell her if you are in any of her videos you will see her in court.

It astounds me to no end how people enjoy watching people do the most mind numbing activity and listen to them say how great it is.

She also brought one of those big, circular light things that you can put your phone in to take pictures. Something for lighting, I guess

I don't disagree.

The point, however, is at least those has-been celebrities seemed to have some sort of skill/talent. Singing, acting, athletic talent, etc. Today's "celebrities" seem to have remarkable talents such as playing video games, or going shopping, or creating such difficult challenges as trying to only eat foods all day that are blue.

You used to have to be able to do something remotely noteworthy to become famous. Now, with advent of social media, anyone can become "famous" by simply doing something as mundane as cleaning their room.

It's essentially reality tv without having to have your dad be oj Simpson's lawyer or a gold medal winning tranny.
