I swear it's a haunted river. Maybe from some Indian massacre.
The water seems to roll under the surface like a cyclone. Clawing the unwitting sacrifices down to a watery tomb.
It's a spooky river. I don't care what you say.

It's too shitty of a river to tube on.

Last time I went I had done several roxies and a lot of beer. I rolled off of the tube at the wrong place and I almost didn't make it. I will never go back, I don't do Rs anymore either. Someone drowns there every year there are plenty of places that are over your head. I am sorry for the families involved and sorry for their loss.

The local news just reported that the individuals that drowned and others in their group didn't know how to swim.
Swimming by itself may not help a person snagged on an underwater object.
That said, people who swim are less likely to panic underwater, and might make better decisions.
My condolences to the victim's families.

Often time this is the result of getting hung in a logjam or stump. If you get in a situation where you are hung on something and the fast moving water is rushing over you its hard to get up.

Every year one or two people drown on the Amite while Tiki Tubing. It really amazes me how nothing has been done yet. They'll be open again next weekend shipping more people down the river. It makes you wonder if they care at all about the people or if they are only worried about the money.

Fact! People who do not know how to swim, should not get into an inner tube and float down a river. Maybe if you have on a life jacket, but that would make for a very uncomfortable trip.

Last time I was tiki tubing it was so shallow my knees got scraped up from hitting all the crap at the bottom.

I think you already know the answer.

I know I do... It's just frustrating how it happens again and again and nothing ever happens. It'll all be swept under the rug like it is every year.

It's their responsibility to make sure everyone can swim? How about you don't go tubing in a river if you can't swim?
Eta: Very sad and don't want my comment being construed as being heartless. I just don't think you can shift the blame to Tiki Tubing.

damn....unreal that they'd go out without knowing how to swim and no lifejacket if that is indeed true...
RIP regardless...

Please don't tell me that was phillip white that pitched for southeastern. We were good friends as kids and played ball together. I really hope that wasn't him.

If you get in a tube and go down the river, you should realize it's your responsibility to do it in a safe manner.

Looks like there were still a lot of people on the river after the fact.

that's kinda odd to have 2 men drown at the same time. very sad.

When I was younger, I used to do stupid shite like get drunk off my arse while tubing. I stopped doing that when I heard about a teenager who drowned about 8 years ago or so. I don't know what it was, but it scared the hell out of me. I'll have a few beers when I go out there and drink water the rest of the time. Not worth the risk.
