It's just frustrating how it happens again and again and nothing ever happens. It'll all be swept under the rug like it is every year.
Swept under the rug? Wtf? Every year people drown at the beach, in lakes, pools, etc. it's not tiki tubings responsibility.
I have never been but I imagine you have to sign consent forms acknowledging this also. I would think their service is equipment and transportation.

They take advantage.
LPSO needs to ban alcohol from the river (tragic, I know) and we wouldn't have these drownings.
Yeah, people might still drown, but everyone knows even though they said alcohol wasn't related, it was.

that's kinda odd to have 2 men drown at the same time. very sad.
One may have tried to help the other

If you ever go canoeing on the Buffalo River in Arkansas you have to sign a waiver. Yeah, most of these outfits are in the equipment and transportation business. What you do once you get on the water is on you.

Not really. If you're not trained to deal with someone drowning, it's pretty easy to get pulled down with the other person if you're trying to perform a rescue. Even if you're trained it can be dangerous.

Were they adults? Why should alcohol be banned when thousands of people are able to make the trip with no problems?
Sometimes people just need to be responsible for themselves...last thing we need is the government getting involved.

Anytime I've gone with any water outfitter they had a waiver or a safety orientation.

Seems like there have been more but nothing alarming in my opinion
Posted on 6/22/14 at 10:48 pm to Topwater Trout
I don't think they should ban alcohol, but they should do more for safety when the river is high and the current is stronger than normal.
Posted on 6/22/14 at 10:51 pm to genuineLSUtiger
That is how it should be.
Seems like LP would close the river if they felt the conditions were too dangerous

More safety precautions couldn't hurt...people will still drown though.

There was one last year (I think some posters here knew him) and a 12 year old also drowned while tubing out of Tiki Tubing a few years ago. LINK
Not sure how many others, those are the only two I remember.

I'll have a few beers when I go out there and drink water the rest of the time. Not worth the risk.
This is my SOP for tubing and canoeing. Had a situation on a two day canoe trip in Mississippi and would have been royally fricked if I had been drunk.

No doubt. But since they are on the river everyday, they should take precautions when it's more dangerous than normal. Most folks that go to TT (I'm assuming) aren't familiar with the river at all.

I wonder how dangerous it was? I am only asking b/c I read one response in this thread saying it was bad and took them 2 hours because the current was so fast...another said 4 hours on the same day
Boom you're an attorney right? Am I out of line in thinking TT has attorneys that have done everything they can to absolve TT of any liability regarding river conditions? Wouldn't the liability fall upon the parish if they were able to operate in dangerous conditions?
My point is maybe all safety precautions have been taken and the only step that can be taken is reevaluating what conditions are safe to allow them to be open.

I think it's safe to assume they've researched how to absolve themselves from liability.
It's not all about liability, though. I would like to think they genuinely care about the people floating on the river.

I heard they climbed trees and dove into the river and drowned

Sad to say but I think they care about money more than the people...as most businesses are.
Like I said earlier I have never been so I'm not sure what the safety precautions are taken. I may go and think "this is overkill" but I am a great swimmer and wouldn't panic in a bad situation.
