WV is not nearly as bad as folks here make it out to be. Some of the most beautiful country I've seen was in WV. We go skiing there and they have some very nice resorts.

That said, the bad parts are really bad. I'e been through area where I've wondered, "How can people live like this?" Then again, same could be said for LA and MS.

Yeah, one of the best states to travel to and stay a week. No way you could live there though with the horrible economy and opportunity.

Alabama is just right. We may not have big bustling cities and massive pro sports teams but we also don’t have the problems that come from those things. If you like family oriented, easy going life without all the woke bs then I can’t think of too many better places to be.

Alabama is a nice state and anyone who says otherwise is trolling or has never been there.....sure it has its pockets of shite but overall it's a mice place.

was it better vision and leadership in the General Assembly and governor's office?

Well, if there’s one thing Alabama is known for, it’s visionary, competent leadership. Right?

I attribute a strong automotive industry as well as what Huntsville and the space / defense industry.

There are , on going to be, 4 separate automotive assembly plants spread across the state.

This has to be a major contributing factor, considering the thousands of people they employ either directly at the assembly plant or the multitude of suppliers to these

You never been through the Black Belt I see. Birmingham to Mobile and all points in between are shite. South Alabama minus Baldwin County is straight shite. Take a stroll sometime.

I’ll throw Oklahoma in here as well. It’s a dog shite state wasteland with reservations scattered besides a small section of OKC doing well

When I retired from the Marines I didnt hesitate to move back home however I wouldn't have bought a home in Orange Beach if I had it to do over. When our daughter graduates from OBHS in a few years we are moving up the road to Robertsdale or loxely. The cost of living in Baldwin County, especially young people moving here has gotten way out of pocket with the rest of the state. Art Favre is building a Mrgaritville Resort north of the Canal so we will definitely be moving a few miles north when it's operational.

The parts of Alabama you mentioned are doing great but they could reenergize Montgomery and Tuscaloosa. I feel both cities have a lot of potential but haven’t flourished like a Huntsville, Mobile and Birmingham.

Montgomery has the tools to make a come-up (promimity to automotive manufacturing centers and geography and two intestates), if they can find better leadership with a better vision. Columbus Georgia isn't far from Montgomery and Columbus is on a roll.

It's not unique to LA, but I agree otherwise. It's one of the worst things about the Deep South to me.

Alabama has been ahead of LA and MS foe 20 years, at least.

Anyone in business knows this.

It's the poorest state in the Union.

ETA: LOL @ the downvote. WV and MS have traditionally been the two poorest states in the country for pretty much my entire life.

You're getting downvoted but I agree with you. Give me the mountains every day. (Although Bama has mountains too)
