My post on this subject in the OB:

Chicago is an awesome city, but it's downright scary that you can't carry a weapon in such a potentially dangerous city.
It's not an easy situation to be in. I'm glad the officer wasn't hurt, and I hate that such a young man had to live such a stupid lifestyle.
The majority of violent offenders are really young, so it's sad that chances are you are taking such a young life, but there is nothing else you can do. Kids don't think straight, and they are full of hormones and anger. They are the quickest to pull the trigger.

I am also aware that the odds of a gun owner or someone in the house getting injured by it are much greater than it being used to protect themselves
Not only is this false it is an unquantifiable statement.

I'm all for citizens being able to arm themselves...though I'm pretty sure that more accidental injuries occur with gun owners more often than the gun being used in actual defense of someone's safety or property. There is surely data on this somewhere.

Most people strive to lead decent lives focused on compassion and generosity. We actively seek out ways to improve the human condition and improve our communities. And every day we see shitbags victimizing innocent people for sport.
I have ZERO tears for anybody that would terrorize another human being like that for sport. I also realize that one DEAD Deonta probably translates to three or four ALIVE law-abiding citizens. That cop did not deny Deonta's humanity, he just made the correct calculation that his Constructive life was more valuable than Deonta's Destructive life. Deonta forfeited his right to breathe our air when he used his Free Will and decided to deny another man of his Rights.
Baby Deonta got exactly what the Universe has always prescribed for his behavior, since men first organized into communities thousands of years ago. To even note his death with anything other than a quick "frick him" is counter-productive. I mean, he will get more notice through the reckless criminal manner of his death, than 1,000,000 other law-abiding citizens of Chicago will get in their entire fruitful, productive lives. I've lived an entire life span without victimizing anybody, you have too, but Baby Deonta thinks our Social Contract is a sucker's game.
frick Deonta, and everybody like him. He got PRECISELY what he had coming. At the very best we can hope his disgraceful death will serve as a cautionary tale in the hood and will keep a few of his buddies sidelined for a few weeks.

Feel free to post the data.
Make sure you link where crime rates are lower in areas with more open gun laws and all of the crimes owning a gun prevented from ever getting started in the first place.
The defense of my property or person is not limited to the reported cases of when I actually pull the trigger and a police report is filed.

you talking about ****mania.net?
Good lord. I saw that, and it looks like the hardcore KKK types are alive and well - and plentiful.
I mean sure, the saying "play dumbass games, win dumbass prizes" could apply here to this stupid thug...but I apply it to any dumbass that tries to rob people regardless of color or age.

Really surprised he was able to get a head shot. I would have shot from my hip assuming he pulled from his hip holster.
Interesting that he was able to raise the gun that high without the kid reacting. It shows you the difference between trained and untrained.

Listen, I'm on the same side of this issue as you are. As for the data, a quick search turned up this article, though I'm sure there's more literature out there on it.
"Concerns over accidental gun deaths and suicides are important in this
debate. In 1998, 53 children under age 10 died from accidental gun deaths.
In cases where the weapon involved could be identified, six of these deaths
involved handguns. Only one suicide with a gun is reported in this age group.
When all children under age 15 are examined, the total number of accidental
gun deaths totals 121, of which 26 were identified as involving handguns."
LINK
I would have to see if any data also exists for situations where the gun is used to defend a person or property. Your point about it not being limited to pulling the trigger or waving it at someone is well taken...as a thug simply knowing "that house" has guns may prevent such an event from ever happening. To that end, surely no data exists.

Facebook Video unedited
This shows a clearer picture of how the Officer positioned himself so that the drawing of his weapon was concealed till the very last minute.
Not that it means anything but the officer was Arab from what I am reading.

Yes the officer knew exactly what to do in that situation. I can't say I would have known to do the same thing. But I do now..

I'm no doctor, but I think that's a bad place to get shot.
