Got an issue with my truck not starting. I turn the key, there is charge in the battery, but engine won't turn and just hear an audible click. Plug the code reader into it and says Throttle Actuator A Control System Stuck Open (P2111). Read up on this and came to the conclusion that this is a safety measure to prevent damage to the vehicle.

But I am also being told that a vehicle can still run even when a Throttle Body goes bad and that it may be the Starter.

So which would it be?

It's a 2013 Tundra V8.

Sounds like either the battery is dead or the starter is bad to me...

Replaced the battery. Probably the starter then.

Bad throttle body will just make it run like crap, but should still start.

Probably a weak battery. Turn your headlights on and see how bad they dim when you try to crank the engine. They'll probably go out completely.

Before you change the starter, check the battery negative cable where it grounds to the engine block. Should be near the starter. When they get corroded, the starter doesn't get enough amps to turn the engine over. That click you're hearing is the bendix gear engaging on the flywheel.

If you can get to the starter, bang on hard it with a pipe or hammer. It might be jammed or the solenoid may have went out. Jammed is good if you can knock it loose.

If you can't find it, use a search engine to help you.

If the throttle body is going bad, the vehicle will shift into limp mode as a safety feature while driving. meaning you can floor it and it won't go over about 10mph max.

A P2111 code on a '13 Toyota V8 means the discribilator is faulty.

Remove and replace.

Should be about $350.

Could be copper starter contacts or dead battery. A bad throttle body sensor wouldn’t prevent the car from starting. It would just run like shite.

Before you replace the starter remove the wire that runs from the starter to the battery and run a wire brush through it to make sure it getting full contact.

I had a starter make the same clicking noise and all it needed was the contact points cleaned.

Throttle body sensor makes your engine run rough . You can clean it and it might fix it. If not it’s not hard to replace.

Get a can of Throttle Body Sensor cleaner spray from AutoZone or the likes. Take it out and clean it good but wait for it to dry before reinstalling.

Don’t take it for granted that the battery is good....I’ve bought new batteries before only to have them go out the next day.

Hows the ground wire? My sons truck did this, but the ground was in bad shape, bought a new one and has been fine since.

I bought this one this morning. Before that tried using my wife's car to jump off the truck same thing, same one click.

Got access (sort of) to the starter and banged on it with the wrench, still the same thing. Sprayed and cleaned the post contacts, going to check the contact on the starter.

Found that the starters on Toyotas are behind the exhaust manifold, behind the heat shield. Hell of a place to be.

Also noticed when it clicks it restarts the computer system, the Air blows in the cab without interruption, but the lights, guages and dash monitor all restart.

It went out on my daughter's vehicle.
She would be driving and her vehicle would just slow down and idle slightly ruff then kill. She would then start it up and it would work fine for quite awhile. It did it a couple of more times. On the third time the check engine light came on. The dealer checked it and that's what coded. They replaced it for $194 total. For a Tundra is will at least be double that plus.

Should have the 5.7 v-8. Hearing the starter click indicates the starter is getting the switch signal to operate. Tapping the starter sometimes works-sometimes not. Was the engine light on before? Is code pending, present, or history code?
Your truck is drive by wire-an electric motor drives throttle opening. Don't worry about a TPS code at this point , you need a starter. It can be changed with exhaust in place-if you don't have a lift-it will be a day you won't forget.

A bad TPS puts a Chevy into limp mode. Toyota might have the computer programmed to not allow the engine to crank if the TPS is bad. I would grab one and throw it on before changing the starter as its much easier to change and generally cheap. If it doesn't work then take it back and look at the starter.

It this is happening they system would not allow the starter relay to energize. Thus no clicking.

Ensure good clean connection Pos and Neg. Try jumping. The starter.
