IIRC, the offshore baws train for this, and they say it’s a bitch to get out of a flipped chopper in the water.

I read that the helo took off at 2am but they didn’t find the crash until yesterday afternoon
read that too
Also, noticed in the pic I posted, there isn't a deployable ELT mounted on the fuselage, which on the 139 is on the LH side below the engine tailpipe. Not to say it didn't have one mounted elsewhere, but odd just the same.

I’m curious about there being a helicopter mechanic on board for a 2 am flight.

yeah, wondered about that too, speculation, since chopper was almost certainly chartered from mainland, and assuming they could accommodate the weight on the return trip, maybe went for precautionary purposes in case of a minor mechanical issue arose that maybe the mechanic might keep it from grounding the bird, when we used to do Cuban charters we'd always take a mechanic and maybe a few parts, oil, etc., again, just speculation
ETA: also could have been a mechanic/pilot in training trying to build time and the pilot let him fly over on the dead leg?

Cline had sold that boat, but I can't remember what the new name is. 300 acres or so of Grand Cay was for sale. I imagine that he had bought it but that is just a guess.

That he had a helicopter mechanic from Florida at his private island in the Bahamas says there may have been a known problem.

Now, why at 2 am? And why did they all have to go if there was an illness?

There were lots of women at LSU in my day who were loaded, but none, to my knowledge, who came from families worth Billions, with a B... That has to be highly unusual at LSU, considering how few Billionaires there are in the world (relatively speaking) and the fact that most of them could easily buy their way into far more prestigious schools... All that said, even though i had a good time at LSU- had i been the son of a Billionaire, i could have had a REALLY good time.

Don’t go to the reddit thread about this. Lots of environmental leftist morons saying he deserved it since he was in the coal business
The Left invaded Reddit over this tragedy.

Is there a way to find out what time the flight plan was filed? Because leaving at 2 AM says they abruptly left at the last minute so that means they left all their clothes and luggage behind it because it would take nearly 6 hours for three college girls to get all their shite packed together just don’t understand why they would leave at 2 AM apparently they were planning on going back

Sesrsons mother was not on the flight. The 4th female was Delaney Wykle, a college student from West Virginia.

seems like the earlier story out there is wrong:

Two more victims have been identified in the Bahamas helicopter crash that killed billionaire tycoon Chris Cline and his daughter.
Jillian Clark and Delaney Wykle were friends of the West Virginia coal magnate’s 22-year-old daughter, Kameron, and aboard the doomed flight, on which all seven passengers were killed early Thursday near Grand Cay, according to reports.
Clark, who was from Kenner, Louisiana, recently graduated from Louisiana State University along with Cline’s daughter, NOLA.com reported.
Clark and Kameron were sorority sisters in the college’s Phi Mu chapter.
The pals were joined on the Fourth of July trip by Wykle, who attended West Virginia State University, the Herald-Dispatch reported.
Tributes flooded social media Thursday to remember Wykle, a former high school cheerleader.
“She had the sweetest soul and had so much life ahead of her,” friend Skylar Simmons wrote on Facebook. “We love you and will never forget our time spent together sweet girl.”

Have met Cline's normal pilot golfing and he is an older guy who I wouldn't think was drinking or at least alot. Plus they fly that nearly daily to bring supplies and crew to Grand, he knows it like back his hand. They were there because he was rebuilding a massive mansion on a smaller island next to Grand with a spectacular and enormous white sand beach. Lots of the folks that used to be employed on Walkers were counting on this rebuild for work. And there is Double Breasted Beach right across the pass from the house which folks run from Jupiter and other Fla towns to just sit and drink at for a few hours then run back - so a group of girls would have plenty to do even that far north. Sounds like an unbelievably sad accident but nothing more

I'm not a pilot, nor do I care to speculate or comment on what motivated them. I've always heard, though, that one of the most dangerous aspects of having your own plane is the ability to decide to when you fly.
