You will probably survive the flu regardless, but you could give it to someone with a weak immune system who may not.

If you got a cold two days later that means your immune system sucks. Yes your immune system will be fighting during the days after the shot, but if it drops your immune system that much....it sucked in the first place. More likely it was just a coincidence.

My mother spent a week in the hospital with the flu in January of 2015. Among other fun things, it crashed her electrolyte levels and caused a seizure. After she was released, she had to be rehospitalized for a few days due to a bad reaction to Tamiflu.

Also from the article you cited...

quote:

Transmission of shed LAIV vaccine viruses from vaccine recipients to unvaccinated persons has been documented, but has not been reported to be associated with serious illness.

quote:

The estimated probability of transmission of vaccine virus within a contact group with a single LAIV recipient in this population was 0.58% (95%CI = 0–1.7) (481).

The 80% number is also referring to people who received the live attenuated vaccine (nasal mist) which is not nearly as common as the injection.

I've never gotten the flu shot, and only got the flu once when I was a kid. My wife and children do get the flu shot, and my wife has ended up catching the flu a couple times after getting the shot.

I do take extra precautions during flu season like wash my hands a lot, use hand sanitizer, don't rub my eyes, and Lysol hotel rooms. I think these are more effective in staying healthy than just taking a shot.

And before anyone calls me an idiot, this comes straight from the CDC website:

quote:
80% of vaccine recipients shed one or more virus strains

Flu Vaccine Safety CDC

The shedding occurs, sure, but only in the Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine (LAIV). This is the nasal vaccine, not any of the shots. The overwhelming number of vaccines administered in the US are the Inactivated Influenza Vaccines (IIVs) which DO NOT SHED because they're not live viruses.

And even in the LAIV shed situations, it very rarely leads to serious illness:
quote:

Transmission of shed LAIV vaccine viruses from vaccine recipients to unvaccinated persons has been documented, but has not been reported to be associated with serious illness. One study of 197 children aged 9–36 months in a child care center assessed the potential for transmission of LAIV3 vaccine viruses from 98 vaccinated children to 99 unvaccinated children; 80% of vaccine recipients shed one or more virus strains (mean duration: 7.6 days). One influenza B vaccine virus strain isolate was recovered from a placebo recipient and was confirmed to be vaccine-type virus. The influenza B virus isolate retained the cold-adapted, temperature-sensitive, attenuated phenotype. The placebo recipient from whom the influenza B vaccine virus strain was isolated had symptoms of a mild upper respiratory illness. The estimated probability of transmission of vaccine virus within a contact group with a single LAIV recipient in this population was 0.58% (95%CI = 0–1.7) (481).

Bottom line, it does WAY more good than harm to get a flu vaccine, even if it is the nasally administered variety.

In summary, ur an idiot.

Despite my vaccination expert's warnings, I haven't caught the Autism yet.

I've gotten the flu shot the past 10 years and haven't had the flu. I'm not so much concerned with catching the flu myself as I am with passing it onto people with weakened immune systems like the elderly or infants.

yeah but if the old people and infants get the flu, they'll be less likely to get it next year. If they die, the herd gets stronger. And the last 50 threads we had on this subject pointed out that the purpose of the flu shot is herd vaccination.
So do the herd a favor and weed out the old and weak.

its the only way we'll survive the flu.

Btw, I've never gotten the shot, and I haven't had the flu since I was maybe 10. My gf actually suggested I get the shot yesterday afternoon. I told her I'm not worried about the flu, because I haven't gotten it in so long. She gets a shot every year, and has had the flu twice in five years (once bad, and once not so bad).

Don't get it, and rub it in your wife's face when she gets sick and you don't

How is this not true whether, or not, you get the shot?

Uh, yes. To both. And both of the people I know who died from it were healthy late 20 to early 30 year olds who were not vaccinated. I’ve seen a couple of kids through work hospitalized this year already for it.

If you get vaccinated, you won't be actively spreading the flu. However, if you don't get vaccinated, then catch the flu, you will be actively spreading the virus for an extended period while you are sick even if you are fine/get over it.

You get the flu shot to minimize the time you have the flu and decrease your chance to spread the infection.

These fricking threads every week by a bunch of retards. Damn.
