The riots were much more about the Korean owned convenience store where the clerk shot a black teen girl thinking she was going to attempt to rob the store.
Latasha Harlins? She put a drink in her coat pocket before paying, and the store owner thought she was trying to shoplift.
It was a tragic misunderstanding.

The only businesses attacked in the riots were almost exclusively Korean owned businesses and stores with booze and/or drugs

Link in the OP says Koreatown was untouched due to them defending themselves. You are saying only Korean shite was burned and looted. What am I missing here???

can you imagine if this happened in 2025? the media would be looking for blood. they would have their lives ruined for protecting their own property from the mob.

I saw burned down Korean businesses in Long Beach after it was over. What people think is the City of Los Angeles is maybe a hundred cities and small towns in Los Angeles County. In the hood, only Korean owned convenience stores were around. Major grocery chains had finally built in the hood after the Watts Riots of the 1960's.
Interesting story related from a friend who was a native of Seal Beach. His dad was a sarge at LAPD and two uncles were captains. At his older sister's wedding reception and his two uncles pulled his dad aside to tell him the Watts Riots had started and to strap up because they could legally shoot N'ers. All were grads of USC.

It was odd hearing choppers fly overhead all night long in Seal Beach when a day into the riots, headed north to Los Angeles County.

The Rodney King shite is exactly why O. J. got off.

The city was only part of it. Much if not most was in small towns in the county and Long Beach, all in Los Angeles County.

What was interesting is the everywhere but one indie TV station played the edited tape without sound of the beating of Rodney King. KCAL, played everything. with sound. He was threatening to kill the officers the entire time and so hopped up on PCP that tasers didn't phase him.
We hired an EMT away from L.A. County FD as a safety man for a project in Carson. Great guy, and per him procedure for responding to fire or health scare in the "hood" was the police officers had to secure the area first. There had been ambushes of the FD responders quite often before this was put into effect.

I still think about this. And the punks acting like they accomplished something while dancing and flipping off the helicopters as they flew overhead.

OR rather
The 33rd anniversary of the LAPD standing down and setting a ridiculous negligence and precedence for allowing future unfettered riots, highway "sit-downs", arson, "Wilding", "The knock-Out Game", A&B, and ANTIFA hi-jinks as a social change tool for those who planned the FUBARing of America.
Rodney King and LA Riots and OJ were the start of an agenda by design.

I was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) El Toro in Irvine at the time, and I remember being confined to the base just in case they needed a bunch of air-wingers to save the day. Nothing happened of course, but only because they likely knew that we Marines were bigger liberators (looters) than anyone rioting up in LA, and not a single one of us was sober.

Darryl Strawberry’s brother was a member of the L.A.F.D. and came close to being shot by a sniper while putting out fires.
