yeah im pretty sure dentists love cases like these rather than your run of the mill shopping mom teeth cleanings/checkups.

in the patient's defense, that cocoon of plaque probably protected the teeth from cavities

I am a dentist, and that's why we have dental hygienists.

for cases like these, i'm sure the smell is rancid as frick.

is the halitosis permanent for these patients, or is there some form of remedy?

great question....once the tartar is removed, and the patient starts getting their home care regiment in shape...then most of those ill effects...bleeding, funky odor, bone loss...can be stopped

do the hygenists sit around and discuss who has the nastiest breath?

i'm so worried about my breath stinking while they're 6 inches away from my mouth i try my damndest to breathe through my nose and take a hit of listerine before i go in.

Do you get some kind of sick pleasure out of causing pain and striking fear in the hearts of men?

Ah, I'm kidding. I'm sure it is a very thankless job overall.

After watching that, I just made an appointment to get my teeth cleaned. Now officially moving from annually to every 6 months.

Be careful about Listerine...there is a new movement towards steering patients away from alcohol containing mouthwashes....some anecdotal evidence that overuse can be associated with oral cancer. Products like Listerine Zero, and Crest ProHealth, are in vogue now to avoid this very issue

nice, thanks for sharing. Will get some asap.

ive also heard that these toothpastes with "micro-beads" in them can damage your gums by getting lodged in there and creating a space for badshit to enter.

What toothpaste do you recommend?

i can't do teeth vids. something about it freaks me out. even normal healthy teeth. the pics/vids of the people with way too many teeth all over the roof of their mouth gives me nightmares.

Toothpaste is a matter of personal preference. There were 3 POW's in Vietnam who were so terrified of dental decay during their captivity that they used reeds from the straw brooms that they used to sweep the floor of their hut to floss with. Nothing else. They were captive for 3 years. When they returned home, and were given a thorough medical/dental exam, they had no decay. No gum disease. Zero. So the conclusion is that plaque removal is a MECHANICAL motion and had little to do with what toothpaste you use. So I tell patients, buy the brand that will keep the toothbrush in your mouth the longest...most people just don't devote enough time to brushing. Get the flavor you like.
