It’s amazing how uniformed some of these parents are. I’ve heard several parents say the same thing. There is nothing wrong with going juco or NAIA if your kid really loves the game. If the kid matures and is good enough he’ll get a shot at D1 at some point.

The other issue is the kid may have been awesome in 13 or 14u but that doesn’t mean they will be elite at 16 or 17 years old. Sophomore and Junior yr in HS is a big separator in baseball and a lot of parents can’t come to grips with that.

Mine okayed Travel ball for past 10 yrs
Have a two games tommorow in Mississippi.

She’s made all district and all state as softball player in 4A public school.

No desire for the next level.
But it’s certainly helped her high school career.
Wouldnt trade past 10 years for anything. The memories… successes wins and failures and losses.

If your kid sucks I get why you hate travel ball.
It was a positive for us.

Add to that the transfer portal becoming a bigger recruiting focus than HS.

Where do you think all those transfers came from before they became transfers.

I’m 100% at peace with my life decisions. Listening to an online contrarian that people like me should invest monies into music for my kids and that is a better life choice is hilarious.

Massive delusion about their kid’s talent?

I agree.

I don't get why they think Junior is a D1 player unless he's the best player on the field every time he steps on it. Im not a baseball player, never was, but I can tell who stands out in any sport. It's not hard to see.

Sure if you completely ignore what the child enjoys, excels at or even wants to do
And if your kid enjoys video games, you should spend thousands on computers, gaming training, streaming setups, etc., right?

We shouldn’t limit to just sports, right?

Working your way up the ladder is way more prevalent in today’s environment than leaving high school and a lot of kids start their path up the ladder being at the 4 year school and developing as the backup for 2 years before playing.

Let me know if you caught me criticizing parents for those decisions. I’ll wait.

I just went on a visit w a very good Florida juco/ but also 4 year academic school. They have a competitive gaming team or some shite. Forgot what it’s called, e something or whatever. Had this big room and all.

A mom called me last night, and I could hear the hurt in her voice.

Her 2027 son has done EVERYTHING. Years of travel ball. More showcases than she can count. Email after email to coaches. Nothing.

No offers.

She's sure he's a D1 player and can't understand why no one sees it.

I told her what I'd want someone to tell me: at 5'8", 155 lbs, he's not what D1 coaches are recruiting, and he may need to open his eyes to D3, NAIA and JUCO.

She disagreed and told me I know nothing.

I understand. No parent wants to hear it.

But "D1 or nothing" too often ends with nothing.

This shows the level delusion that some of these parents have when it comes to travel ball. Anyone who knows anything about D1 level baseball knows a 5’8” 155 lb kid isn’t going to be remotely considered by any D1 program. And even when told as much by a guy who has specialized in coaching and recruiting baseball players for almost 30 years and has almost 4,500 players placed in the college ranks, her only reply was to tell him “he knows nothing.”

That’s 100% delusion.

I didn’t say you did.

I just want to make sure we don’t limit this to just sports.

If your child has an interest they enjoy, as parents, we should spend all the capital and time possible on said hobby, no matter the hobby.

If your child wants to become an actor and really likes acting in school plays, a parent should move to LA and get them acting classes.

Parents spend money as they deem and choose. I mean, it’s ok to be critical of child hobby expenses but some families being judgmental, mommy gets a new Tahoe every 3 years. I mean, there is no end to financial judgement.

I hope you noted the sarcasm.

It is our duty as parents to not only support our children, but to keep them grounded.

Also, I stopped at 2 kids. I didn’t want more kids. 2 kids is a more feasible financially manageable for me. If I had 4 or 5 kids like other moron families, maybe my financial decisions would be different. That’s life.

LOL. Yes. I just wanted people to see that one line. I feel like if you take one sentence out and just show a group that one sentence instead of all the information it might click for them how ridiculous it sounds.
