Why?

So, my kid may go play 1-2 years of juco ball and will be able to get good grades and really, at that point, nothing academically matters from her high school. This isn’t me shitting on academics, and the ideal scenario are those w high academics and athletics. Not sure why people want to make a shite match of either or.

I tell my kids constantly that they'll never make a dime playing sports. We wrestle and play football to build work ethic for real life. If they end up earning some type of scholarship as a result, that's fantastic. But don't count on it.

It’s absolutely insane how many people think their kid is not only going D1 but power 4. Baseball is insane at the D1 level. There is great ball played at the lower divisions at great schools.

Personally I’ve never liked the idea of travel ball. Show my age I grew up with parents paying a non refundable $35 fee for baseball. We had a draft if your name wasn’t called you didn’t play that summer. All stars were chosen at the end of the year and if you won state then you got to travel. It was all earned. I loved it miss playing it was my life for 17 yrs.

Blahahah

So many morons. Sooooo many.

Your white kid a mid athlete. Most people just can’t handle that all that money they spent didn’t do a fricking thing and you literally threw away hundreds of thousands in the bank on travel ball.

Hope it was worth it.

Probably more true for boys than the girls. Daughter played travel softball through the 90's. We lived in Southern California which was the hotbed for the sport. Played exposure tourneys, nationals, with and against the best at the time. Got about a dozen inquiries from D1, planning some visits. Hurt her shoulder, that dream was over.

Only thing we ever wanted out of it was someone to pay for her college. We knew there wasn't any real money girls after college.

It is. The stereotypes about "travel ball" and travel ball parents exist for a reason. But it is possible to let your kid participate in it and have a positive experience and outcome. My kid is a freshman, on scholarship, playing juco baseball. Barring injury or him losing complete interest he will move on to a 4 year school in a year or two. And we didn't bankrupt ourselves, blow out his arm, or beat up any umpires anywhere along the journey. Like anything else, it's all what you make of it.

The “trainers” scam families and make close to $100k/ year, mostly cash from game “admission” fees.
Now the AAU coaches are NIL agents. Some of the biggest scumbags out there.

We paid a cumulative $200,000 on credit over 15 years for our son Chaser to get a partial scholarship to Houston Christian University. Worth every penny.

Interesting. Didn’t realize it was that tight nowadays. My company has a customer who’s son is a scholarship freshman at a top25 program. I figured he was really good, but just thinking regular above average+, but reading how much harder it’s gotten to go D1 out of HS, much more impressive.

If they are surprised by this, it's their fault
