My grandfather's parents kicked him out the house at 13. In the depression.
People used to sell off their kids as indentured servants because they couldn't or didn't want to spend the money to raise them.
Men married their daughters off for dowries.
People would make their kids leave school to work the farm.
Made their kids work in deplorable conditions in factories and mines to bring in income.
But parents are getting worse these days.
