As tight as the labor force is right now this is going to peel a ton of people out of here to Texas for recovery. A lot of whom probably will not come back.

Industry people should be planning on rising labor cost and shortages in the very near future. My phone has been ringing all day with Texas inquiries so this might just turn our economy a different direction.

I've have inquiries from commercial and industrial owners. It's not just houses getting hit.

And no I don't do anything with residential but anyone here knows what it has been like to get a qualified person to work on your house. Well most of those guys will be heading west.

As long as there's work here, why would they leave?

Inflated estimates that aren't questioned due to FEMA money?

super awesome thread.

It is a discussion thread for anyone in business. There is already a tremendous labor shortage all over South and Southwest Louisiana. This is going to make it worse . It's a pretty simple discussion for anyone with a stake in the industries that need labor.

Because they might be able to go to Texas for a lot more money. This can be a very nomadic workforce. I could hire 20 more people today for LA and can't find them. I'm sure that won't change. But projects I have in other states Texas included I can get the manpower but I can guarantee it will be a 20-30% premium.

This is a discussion for grownups, and the observation posed by the OP is a pertinent one. Now run along kids.

[insert unemployment statistic here] i never have a shortage of labor. i have a shortage of GOOD labor. i can still run the company off of shitty labor though.

the flood is going to stimulate jobs just as they did here. maybe you need to be more specific to which industry you're referring.
i don't think it's going to hurt the 'industry' here. i think it will free up jobs for the unemployed and/or free up cash flow for raises, etc.
