A buddy just used uber 30 minutes ago...trip was 22 miles..she thought the rate was mid $40s with around %7-9 surge hike...it was actually 7-9 times and just got billed for $329

It didn't give us the exact total until we reached our destination...but the uber app clearly stated what the surge hike would be ..she thought it was percentage, not times the quoted amount

And how is it Uber's fault that your friend is an idiot??

Anyone with a decent IQ could guess that NYE is gonna have MUCH higher Uber rates.

Used uber in BR for the first time this week. Called cab first, was going to be 45 min wait. Downloaded uber, dude in a clean smoke-free F150 was there in less than 5 mins and the fare was reasonable.

Uber > BR cabs

We were just in NY and used Uber and taxis a few times. They were comparable in price for short trips. We preferred Uber.

This warms the cockles of my capitalistic heart.

Attempting to make money by cornering a market, without bothering to improve the product, will sooner or later burn you.

The Hunts say hello. Wanna make those medallions silver?

The thing is Uber is just such a better product all around that the majority of people would probably pay equal to, if not more than taxis to use it.

The fact that it's cheaper is just the icing on the cake.

Exactly

Taxi service in this town (Corpus Christi) is absolutely terrible. I can get an uber car to show up in less than 10 minutes more times than not and it's half the price.

Unbridled capitalism is not always a good thing. I mean we don't want our air to look like China's.

But Uber is a clear case of capitalism gone right.

I just started using Uber a few months ago. Have used in the U.S. and a couple of times in Mexico City. It is a great product. Far superior to the typically crappy cab rides I have had over the years.

I love Uber in other cities but I think yellow cabs are better in NYC. Usually quicker to hail one and prices are cheaper in my experience.

No contest in Atlanta though. Uber 1000%
