My SO is still there in LA and has been since Monday. Can they do this?

Crazy that nobody needs a gender studies professor during an ice storm

Ochsner facility? I hear they are getting paid 16 hr for 12 hour shifts but that’s it. No sleep pay.
Ochsner is still doing this?! I’m surprised. Sounds like state law needs to be changed. If you’re an hourly employee, you should be free to leave as soon as you are stopped being paid.
Example is one guy on site representing his support service for his particular department. Supports entire facility. On site pay is 16 hours and not paid for sleeping 8. Problem is the sleep is not guaranteed to be un interrupted, still on site in an office, and unable unable to leave.

Some of yall need to negotiate a better employment contract to address these types of events. Do better. I have zero sympathy. Work or quit then.
Bonus question: Can you guess who has these types of issues addressed in their employment contracts almost universally?

The issue is that in some areas other workers wouldn't be able to come in.
So there isn't much of a choice. Can't just leave the admitted patients stranded with nobody to care for them.
Hopefully those affected get shift changes this afternoon with more roads clearing.

My buddy works at an oil refinery and they had to stay on campus Monday-Friday.

The problem is they are telling the nursing staff they are free to go as they please knowing they can’t go anywhere because the roads are shut down.
My arse made it home quite nicely
And yeah, sleeping in my own bed last night did fricking wonders for me.
