lol you joke but there’s some truth to that

Yeah It’s close to the truth. Alcohol hurts too much the next day and I don’t want to sit around drinking around my kids anyway. Pills are much better.

It affects everyone differently. I've always drank with friends and family and have never gotten into any trouble. It's always been to have a good time. I have family members, however, with fights, arrests, DUIs. They just cannot control themselves. If you don't like what it's doing to you, you should stop. Find other hobbies.

I quit a smooth 40 yrs ago. It got to the point that if I drank even a couple of beers I would feel like crap for days afterwards. I got damn tired of that and gave it up for permanent at 26. I have no regrets about it at all. I appreciate feeling well tremendously and never take it for granted.

Trying hard to bring my weight down and tighten up long ignored muscles and build my guns a bit. I've noticed a setback every time I drink. It may only be a couple of beers, but makes me feel the next day or two like I don't have the strength I did just before having the beers. Even worse with distilled spirits. So I need to cut it out.

Again, it's the alcohol? Or it's their personalities that get unleashed by booze? You wander off and pass out at the pool, they go all Real Housewives. It's not the booze, or the weed.

I'm sure Jesus will fix everyone.

Again, you male mental health heroes that believe in teetotaling, where does this anxiety and depression come from? It's not from Guinness. It's from knowing he ignored his boss' emails four hours before and dreading the morning status meeting, it's not the beer, or some similar scenario, usually about indecision and uncertainty.

Alcohol has ruined many lives. I get it plus it's empty calories.

Anyone have any tips on how you rid yourself of this demon?

Find support from someone else.

For me it was my wife.

For friends I know it was a friend.

Just someone you can talk to and help you.

Find a hobby to keep you occupied.

Something else that helped me was finding something else to drink.

I use to just drink beer while I was doing stuff in evening before going to bed.
Now I drink carbonated drinks.
Or ginger beer or root beer.

I also kept track of how much money I saved.
That was good motivation

I drank some when I was younger. But now I can't drink at all. Dr said I have nash (non alcoholic liver disease) with cirrousis.

For me it was my body telling me to stop. Felt I was dragging the next day and this was after only about 3 beers. This was in my 40s. Now at 70 I can't drink a beer or a drink without it tasting bad before I finish it. Everybody is different, but I would listen to my body.

Just do it and see how it goes.

I was talking about the anxious and down feeling I would get the morning after drinking just yesterday to my wife. I don't miss it

Yesterday marked my 9th month without a drink

I don’t love it anymore. I’ll go weeks without a drink, then I’ll have just 2-3 and realize why I don’t drink very much. Something about age and having daily pressing responsibilities makes it less appealing. It definitely interferes with being at the top of your game. And the anxiety and depressed mood isn’t worth it.

I was pretty much a functioning alcoholic for more years than I'd like to admit but finally put it down. Daily beer drinker plus would get in the tequila, vodka or whiskey on the weekends, fishing/hunting trips or holidays

Gave it all up about a year and a half ago and feel 100% better, especially in the mornings.

My brain and thinking processes have cleared up.

Only problem now is I have to remember all the stupid stuff I did while drunk, and I F'ed some shite up over the years.

Very nice.

Hasn't always been easy but the pros very much outweigh the cons of drinking (especially like I did, hard, black out and often)

Good for you.

I’m the am the same age, have about 7-10 drinks a week (ie one beer a night and maybe 2 on the weekend) but don’t really get the hangover everyone is talking about. At worst I just sleep shitty in hotels on the road if I don’t have a wide enough span between drinking and bed.

I’ve quit for extended periods of time and felt little difference. That said, I’m also aware it’s poison and believe something about IPA hops have an additionally addictive effect. There’s no positive effect, it’s just ceremony.

Athletic Upside Down Golden is by far my favorite of all the N/A's I've tried.
