Thinking about limiting my purchases to local businesses from here on.

Seriously. I understand that by myself I'm not going to stop local businesses from going out of business and I'll have 0.00% say in where manufacturing is handled, but throughout all of this it just doesn't sit right with me when people who own nearby restaurants are having to lay off workers while Mcdonalds keeps cruising like nothing happened.

Maybe I'll get rid of my prime membership. Maybe I'll stop going to home depot/lowes/walmart/kroger and just shop at local hardware places and local grocers. If I can't get something from a local store, maybe I just won't have that thing. I know it probably won't make a difference, but I think it will make me feel better.

It’s a novel thought but it’s nearly impossible to eliminate big chains. Shouldn’t stop you from patronizing local biz as much as possible.

We’ve been getting take out once a week from a different local restaurant to give some help. Every time we go the phones are ringing off the hook (when I could go pick up inside)

I go out of my way to mom and pops grocery stores. Yes, I’ll pay a little extra but the parking is close, check out line is quicker, better help when locating items, and I like the employees.

We've been doing the same. Got fast food from a local joint Friday and then a bottle of wine from a local wine bar we go to sometimes.

Big regional chains are fine. Up here that means ALbertsons, Winco, and more that I'll have to research.

While they may be a national chain, a lot of those chains are franchises and are locally owned

Local “chains” usually still have a local owner/franchisee. And the workers they employ are still locals who need the paycheck.

It’s not really as black and white as you are making it

For bars, restaurants, and groceries, I’m about 90% local all of the time

Another little man sticking up for the big man. I'm sure you're in their will due to your grandstanding.

I’ve done the same thing. I’m just one person, not even a family but I purchase local every single chance I get. I get my perscriptions at CVS and that’s gonna change next refill.

local grocers

This is how I've been shopping for groceries for a few years. Yeah, it's a little more expensive. But, I don't have to walk 2 miles through a parking lot, don't have to walk 10 miles through some huge arse store, there's never a line to wait in (at most might be one person ahead of you). It's simply much more convenient than going elsewhere, well worth the extra few dollars I pay.

No dick! People bitch about evil corporate America & piss and moan if you don’t get a good return on the funds each qtr but you grandstand how you hate big business! Jerry DiNardo said it best pick a side of the fence and stay the hell on it. You can’t have it both ways.
Run to your local store & get what you need

Walmart ytd 18% return
KROGER 22% return
Costco 15% return

This weekend I went to four different local businesses that either didn’t accept debit or credit cards, or wanted to charge 4 percent extra.

If you want to be a legit business, you can’t do this.

With the exception of a few old school restaurants, I can’t think of any place that does this
