I was a Cpl and they immediately made me a rifleman, within 6 months I was a squad leader for deployment, and after deployment I was acting Plt Cmmdr for the begging of the workup. Really hit or miss for Security Forces guys. Either they're rock solid or complete pieces of shite.

I wasn't in a line company but yeah, I heard some stories about them. Like you said, really hit or miss. I think some of it was saltier guys going out of their way to shite on them though and not help with anything.

Going through boot camp all over again as a 32 year old would suck though
There was a 30-something year old guy in my boot camp division. He had already gone through, graduated, and drank a beer when he went to eat with his wife. Dickbag duty chief smelled it on his breath and got him rotated back to day 1. Our RDCs took pity on him and didn't really make him do shite. I remember thinking "goddamn this dude is old".

The Army used to let prior services marines skip boot camp but it's been 15 years since I went. Although I keep hearing rumors about some sort of prior service BCT that's only 6 weeks long and at Ft Sill or Leonard Wood.

It all depends on what you want out of your military career. Any branch of service that you choose can provide you valuable experience. If you have a good head on your shoulders and are looking to make a career after the military than you can't go wrong with intelligence, medical or aviation and that goes for any branch. If you want a combat mos than the Army or Marine Corps may serve you best. Anyway if you decide to serve I wish you the best of luck and success.

I was with the first group of enlistees from the "All-Volunteer Army" in 1974. I was 17 years old and troops were being pulled out of Viet Nam.
It was an honor to serve with the heroes who I befriended while serving in the 101st Airborne Division.
Two of the best years of my life and I regret that I didn't re-enlist for a few more years.
But I suggest to you, the Air Force. Army is for bullet catchers while the Air Force is not as intense.
Good luck to you....and God Speed, son.

You are a miserable poster. I would like to thank you for not posting much. I would like to also ask you to stop posting completely. Just think about it.

Was Army, joined right out of high school because of 9/11 like many New York alpha males. Really wish I did Navy though, because I did not want to make a 20 year career of the army.

Rule #1- don't trust your recruiter
Rule #2- know what job you want and do not accept anything else
Rule #3- the job you want is aviation
Find the quickest way to the officer pay chart and fly. Trust me.
20+ years flying in the Air Force/AF Reserves

By far one of the best decisions I ever made. Went to college right out of high school and wasn't ready or mature enough for it. Joined the Navy, saw some great places, made some great life long memories and friends that 20+ years later I'm still in contact with. Attended college classes on the ship while on a Med cruise. Used Tuition Assistance while on shore duty to get some college classes, used my GI Bill when I got out and finished my education in 3 semesters. Definitely made me grow up and mature.
This sounds EXACTLY like my situation, except I went the AF route.
I got what I needed out of my 6 years (time to grow up) and just got out this month, started my new job this week, and start school back up this month to hopefully be done in 2 years.
Made some friends and did/saw some things that I will never forget. Just didn't want to do it for life and wanted my kids to grow up with all their cousins, aunts/uncles, and grandparents.

I got your pussy ... sonic ? J/J - typical ignorant army response... probably had to cut and paste Air Force because you couldn’t spell it ...
