Thinking about a new vehicle: SUV or Truck?

My Grand Cherokee is at about 165k miles, so I'm starting to look around to see what all is out there. As much as I'd like to drive it until the wheels fall off, it's a Jeep - might happen at any moment.
I've always driven SUVs, but I've ridden in several trucks recently that I like (Tacoma being the most memorable).
Any OT suggestions? I'm in my 30s, married (no pics), and no kids. Having the covered storage space in the SUV has been nice, but there have been times a truck would have been helpful.

You can put a bed cover on a truck.

I have just over a year and 17k miles on my Canyon All Terrain. It's been great. the backseat is larger than in tacoma, and the way the rear seats fold is much more user friendly.
Having said that, I'm probably going to be upgrading to a full size truck soon. I bought it right before we found out we were pregnant. While a car seat fits in the back, you really can't fit anyone in the front passenger seat at the same time.
If we didn't have the baby it would be perfect.

No kids? Is there even a question then?
You can buy a soft tonneau cover when you need the bed covered. And just keep it rolled up when you don't

Buy a SUV, put on a trailer hitch, buy one of those $700 trailers at Lowes. For the occasional times you have to haul something, hitch up trailer.

You want a Range Rover.

Never really saw the draw.
The new 4Runners have caught my eye.

I would say truck, but do yourself a favor and get a full-size.
The truck would definitely last longer than most SUV’s out there. (4Runner, Tahoe, Yukon and Expedition being the exceptions)

Honestly....the new Grand Cherokee is a very good vehicle. Maybe try the new one before you decide.
The Overland model is pretty cool.
I do think that the 4Runner and Tahoe may offer more longevity than the Grand Cherokee. They are essentially trucks with a full ladder frame. That may be a negative in a few years if gas prices climb though.

Those 4runners are not new. Mild body changes, but engine/tranny/interior remains unchanged for about the last 8 or so years. Low hp, low mpg, but very reliable though.

The Ford F-150s have a/c seats. It’s a life changer.

Full size would be the only option. I still need to have a back seat.

Well, go in and tell the dealership that you just want a payment no more than $700/month, and interest rate is no issue as long as your payment requirements are met.

My new f-150 has a heated steering wheel. Wtf, is that all about?

I have a friend who has had multiple surgeries for trigger fingers. When she bought a new vehicle, a heated steering wheel was a requirement, because a cold one made her hands hurt.
Now, it being in a truck is a different question.
