I've been saying this for years. If cops would start enforcing this it would solve a lot of problems. Start with 18 wheelers must remain in right lane unless passing

18 Wheelers seem to typically be alright when it comes to the rules of the road.

For every 1 a-hole 18 wheeler, I seem to come across 50 a-hole car drivers.

I’m sure she says crap like, “I’m driving plenty fast enough and people can just go around me.”

I agree. They are frustrating because though obeying the law, they are still going 72 while passing that other truck going 71.75.

The problem is the speed variances
If one person going 70 up front taps their brakes, everyone behind must hit their brakes, and the last person ends up slowing to 40 or 50. The people way behind that person then catch up, and that causes an even longer backup

If the spirit of the law is that everyone is speeding, why don't they raise the speed limits instead of letting the enforcement of the speeding law be so vague?

Some people aren't capable of driving faster. Those differences in speed are dangerous

Because people will always push the envelope and if its posted at 80 / 85 then you would have a greater percentage of people going 100

That trooper is a gentleman and a scholar. We need more like him. I wish he would have been on my commute this morning.

I’d be fine with a law that said 18 wheelers must be in the right lane and cannot pass.

I've noticed over the last several years that more and more white guys in trucks are hogging the left lane, refusing to move over.

The problem is bad in houston. It’s an assortment of rejects who do it. Guys in trucks, Asians, black women, old people, Hispanic people. All obliviously putting along in the left lane.

This is unequivocally false. At 80/85, people start limiting themselves. The vast majority of drivers are uncomfortable driving 85+ and only those with cars that handle well will drive at “100” the way you describe. The difference between safely handling a car at 85 and 100 is exponentially more difficult as boundaries start being pushed. Most drivers are not capable of driving at those speeds nor do their vehicles safely maneuver at those speeds.

I experience this daily on the Dallas Norh Tollway where the traffic flow is generally about 75-77 mph and the faster cars push 85-87 as cruising. It is a rarity that someone goes 100+ even on a straightaway that’s four lanes wide. The cars going 100+ are almost always exotics which are built for those speeds.

I took a tollway to Austin recently that was posted at 85 and didn’t see a single person going 100 on about a 25 mile stretch. Cruising was right around 85 for most cars. Yes, the occasional car will press the gas into triple digits but this isn’t a frequent occurrence. The risk/reward ratio goes to shite at those high speeds.
