Trust me young job force OT'ers this is a very important one. Never ever ever initiate a call to HR. Believe me they are not there to help. And if called on by HR pretend you are being being interviewed by cops and give as little info as possible. Answer only direct questions using "yes" and "no" if possible. Do not get wordy in your responses. In fact you probably have more rights when being interviewed by the cops. At least there you can say I want an attorney.

I am sure there are organizations with fine HR groups out there but in my 33 years in the work force I have found the vast majority of HR departments are not to be trusted.

Started from the bottom now we here.

HR ultimately exists to protect the company as much as legally possibly and a little as morally possible as management is comfortable letting it.

It is akin to a person having State Farm insurance and discussing a claim with "their" State Farm agent. The agent really represents State Farm's position, that's who manages and owns him/her.

This.

"Hey I'm gonna put in for a couple PTO days next month." What follows is hand wringing and stammering. Or you having to find your own replacement. or a dreaded "not enough notice" of PTO given. Some place want 45-60 days advance notice.

Who knows all their plans 60 days in advance? I mean major vacations? Sure, but a quick weekend. Or a Monday off for a long weekend. If quitting a job only needs 2 weeks minimum and 4 weeks is plenty of time, how can a vacation need more.

This attitude is rampant in health care. It forces many employees to lie and find an illness.

For a small business, "Things are pretty tight right now" when talking about raises, while owners are jet setting all over the world and rolling up in a new high end luxury cars every year.
