Bastrop, Louisiana, or Bastrop, Texas? It is my contention that these birds, with which I wasn't familiar 10 years ago, have steadily infiltrated Louisiana from south Texas.

I've always wondered why there are so many in the Houston area (Texas). But in Baton Rouge, they are nonexistent. Not that I'm complaining.
they're definitely in lake charles and i feel like you still see some in lafayette. i wonder if the atchafalaya basin acts as a barrier. or maybe they need a certain frequency of gas station parking lots in order to expand territory

I grew up in the AP during the 70's, and those frickers were everywhere.

remember in my late 20s being at an HEB in Houston at night the first time I saw a true infestation of grackles. That parking lot had dozens of trees and each tree had dozens of screaming birds in them. It was crazy loud and eerie.
Yea they congregate at dusk in urban environments. They’re apparently drawn to artificial light sources. The big HEB in McAllen turns into a scene from The Birds every evening.

It's just strange that they haven't populated more to the east. Seems like the climates are similar enough.
We get a ton of them and Starlings here in Kentucky. If a bunch show up I usually have to leave the feeders empty for a couple of days so they can frick off somewhere else.

My biggest issue with them is they shite everywhere. Had to install some of those owl statues at my moms house to scare them off and get them to stop shitting all over the fence and her car. A lot of businesses have bird spikes on their roofs and fences to keep them at bay.
