Man, frick all that. I don't even think people should wear headphones / ear buds in public.

Also, how is this different from that universally reviled Google Glass shite from 5-10 years ago? It has an Apple logo on it?

I live and NYC and was thinking how obnoxious it will be with dipshits walking around with these things, then I remembered the illegal migrants will just steal them from people with no recourse. So, the circle of life continues.

Anyone that's spending $3,500 on a VR/AR headset is something I likely already don't have much common ground with.

You speak as if these are mutually exclusive. The military has been using VR for training for years. What the hell do you think a flight simulator does? There's all sorts of job training that can be done on VR platforms.

Jayden Daniels even used VR to help him adjust to other stadium environments and we saw the results.

And if you've seen some newer VR applications you can see it interacts with the real world going by "augmented reality" which is basically stuff that can be seen in a real world environment. You can still see and talk to people.

I get the concerns about it negatively altering socializing, but let's not act like this is the first technology to change relationship dynamics.

Look at the telephone and/or telegraph. Used to have to send a piece of paper, taking weeks/months, or you would have to travel to the person and tell them yourselves.

Going from snail mail to telephone/telegram was a far bigger leap than anything VR will do.

We already have instant video calls and such.

At about 35 I quit adapting to new technologies. I'm full blown angry old man that can't set up a wireless printer.

This right here. At 34 idc to learn or have any new technology such Apple Vision Pro.

The only new technology I may even CONSIDER buying is a PS5 or something.

Two sides to the coin - being physically apart, but virtually together with others, or in this instance, being physically together, but virtually apart. No thanks, to either.

Anyone stupid enough to wear one of those bulky idiotic looking things needs their brain rewired.

We've been using altered reality eyewear on our military Malinois for a while. They contour well to the dogs' face and allow handlers - who used to have to be right in there with them - to operate more remotely.

You can digitally add to (say, insert a handler with a laser pointer to the scene) or delete from (just like you would on your iPhone when you click and extract an image) in order to provide a more concentrated focus for the dog.

It's pretty fascinating, and to this day my decommissioned six year old Mal loses her fricking mind when you pick up the laser pointer and say Go.

Goes absolutely nuts, like a combination dog/cat/goat type creature that will do *anything* (yes, I've tested the limits) to get that laser beam. She can literally be sound asleep one moment and sprinting full speed or climbing a tree tree the next provided you point that stupid laser at it and say Go.

AR is a really interesting and useful technology control means.

Noting that my beloved Great Grandaughter was becoming more enthralled with Youtube as opposed to our usual outside adventures, I posed a "grownup question" to her while sitting on the couch one day. I asked her that knowing how hard some of her life already has been, and given that she now seems to find the 'Laptop' world more entertaining and less demanding and hurtful...that IF she had the choice of wearing some headset (I didn't know this was out there but suspected it would soon be) or living in the 'real' world...which would she choose? She immediately pointed to the laptop.

Her reaction confirmed what I have long suspected. "Where there is no vision, my people die". There are a lot of different ways for the Soul to 'die'.

Lord have mercy on them who love.

We already are working into that society with phones. Look at old video of public activities pre smart phone, and you’ll see that life was much more human interaction and by comparison , we have already been indoctrinated.

These folks will be the same one hating on boomers, claiming they can’t afford homes and life bc boomers messed things up. While they are spending $3,500 on VR. On a good note, maybe they will get lost in their virtual world and we can get our country back on track. Donate then to pedo Joe and all of congress, too so we can get busy.

That article is from Microsoft

But yeah, some people will be like crackheads with these things. The gaming is amazing and will only get better. It’s just like anything. There’s people that will use it as a useful tool or completely ruin their lives with it. Some will never try it.

You do know that lasers aren’t good for dogs, right? It can make them OCD and ruin them. But I’m sure a drivey working dog is already OCD, lol.

Unfortunately this dog was probably OCD from the get go, or they made her that way idk, but she is tightly wound. Chilling the older she gets, but I don't pick up or even move that laser (she's watching) unless I intend to take her down and run her.

It’s stranger to consider how our brains already change how we all experience something simultaneously.

Guess I am gonna miss out since I'm not going to get one of those things. I am sure billions of other people won't either.
