#Egyptian archaeologists have dashed hopes that a newly-discovered ancient sarcophagus might contain the remains of Alexander the Great, finding instead a mummified family swimming in red liquid

How freaky would it have been to watch them open that for the first time?

The prospect of opening the long-sealed sarcophagus had stirred fears in Egyptian media that it could unleash a thousand-year curse on its finders.

Can't go around opening up every little sarcophagus we find, all willy nilly.

Are we trying to frick around and get ourselves stuck inside a Tom Cruise movie?

I'm sure everything seems fine, but the spirit they released will start its evil work before long.

No one is going to ask what the hell the red liquid is that hasn’t dried up over all this time?

ETA. Never mind. “Mr Waziri said some of the remains had disintegrated because sewage water from a nearby building had leaked into the sarcophagus through a small crack in one of the sides.”. Well that’s gross.

If Egyptian sewage is red, it’s time to inspect the typical diet.

And that did not smell amazing, or like soup.

No shite, but find me one gif of Boris Karloff making a “you serious” look in his Mummy movie.

Can’t do it.

From the BBC article:

According to Egyptian news outlet El-Watan, they initially lifted the lid of the tomb by just 5cm (2 inches) before the pungent smell forced them from the inspection scene entirely. They later prised it open with help from Egyptian military engineers.

Lankester Merrin, a veteran Catholic priest and exorcist, is on an archaeological dig in the ancient city of Hatra in Iraq. There he finds an amulet that resembles the statue of Pazuzu, a demon of ancient origins whose history Merrin is familiar with
