It should be noted that although Baton Rouge is absent from this list, it’s only because the city dashboard does not list homicides, so they were not included. Baton Rouge would be 5th

Do you think anyone that lives in NOLA that posts on this board is voting for Latoya and Jason Williams?

Way to go New Orleans. Latoya should be so proud

The murder rate in New Orleans is over 300% higher than Chicago.

Chicago is a big, sprawling city that includes upscale areas and suburbs. Almost all of their murders occur in two areas. If you compacted Chicago to conform with other city limits the murder rate would be much higher and if you expanded New Orleans to include Jefferson and St. Tammany Parrishes their murder rate would drop.

Would be interesting to see the demographics of the victims/perps for all of these cities.

This thread is about New Orleans. There can only be 1 murder capital.

It takes years after statues are removed for their evil aura to leave an area.

A lot of democrat run cities on that list. I'd say they're getting what they vote for

Right. New Orleans is confined to one Parish/County, while Chicago takes up more than one and is made up of some very affluent suburbs as well.

If you throw in parts of the NOLA Metro area like Jefferson and St Tammany, there's a different conversation.

But it is what it is.

Orleans has descended into madness. I want out so bad.

Not so sure about that - this was also in the article:

quote:

While Jackson, Mississippi, did not appear on Asher's list (it has an estimated population of less than 200,000), the city recorded about 153 homicides in 2021, pegging the homicide rate at 99.5 per 100,000 residents. So far this year, the city has recorded 70 homicides, putting it on track to reach a similar murder rate by the end of 2022, according to WLBT.

It really is sad. I used to be a NOLA defender on here, but I can’t do it anymore. I will cross into the parish to the zoo area and the park area, outside of that, I don’t have the desire anymore. I’ll still go to events like games at the arena/dome, but that’s about it

Not even that is true. Baltimore is the only one near New Orleans, and it’s pretty far behind in a distant second place.

The Jackson stat is insane though. If true, it’s rate is 3x New Orleans.

This is from a NYT article (Feb. 2021), which if the statistics are true, is interesting to consider:
quote:

But even if New Orleans were removed from Louisiana’s count, the state would have recorded the nation’s highest or second-highest murder rate in 12 of the last 15 years

That’s from:
Louisiana and Mississippi have a lot of poors

Article also blames slavery and poor people
