Doing all of that in the late Fall when it isn't miserably hot and the mosquitoes aren't eating me alive is vastly better.

That's fine too, but with a fan going and a cool pool to take a dip in, summer is my second favorite time to cook outdoors behind college football season.

Did it with a pork butt. Put it in the freezer. Didn’t say a thing.

Same here man! Got a green egg smoker and I sip scotch while listening to rock and roll. The wife and kids know to leave me alone. I’ll browse some tiger droppings while smelling the sweet smell of cooking meat. It’s my moment of zen in life!

Well, smart arse, when you make statements like "Give me a bourbon instead of whiskey" it sounds like you don't understand that they aren't necessarily different. Or maybe you just aren't very good at English. The proper response would have been something like "as long as that whiskey is a bourbon."

I usually spray my ribs with apple cider but decided to try Cherry Coke

Holy shite I’m ashamed to admit how good it was.

Back in the late 90s and early 2000s, I and some buddies had a competitive BBQ team. We actually placed top 3 multiple times on the KCBS circuit. I did the ribs & butts and made the BBQ sauce, two other guys did the briskets, and another guy did the chicken. This was in the day of old school smoking, before pellet smokers became popular. Anyone can rub down some meat with spices and then set a thermostat and timer. But it takes skill to maintain consistency in smoke and temperature using an offset firebox smoker. And that consistency is the key to good BBQ.

We quit doing smoke-offs after the pellet smokers started hitting the scene. For starters, it wasn’t about the skill of smoking any longer. But more so that we noticed anytime a particular pellet smoker manufacturer sponsored an event, the winning teams just so happened to be using their products.

I still like to smoke at home from time to time, and I still use my old-school smoker. But now I just do it for the family.

Somebody once suggested Dr pepper and I thought they were crazy but maybe they were on to something. I might give this a try with the cherry coke

Exactly this. I love to throw on a butt or some ribs and spend the day in the pool while watching golf.
