Scraped my truck up against a Boulder on a road like this getting to a wilderness area trying to avoid a drop down to a creek over a couple hundred feet
Absolutely hate roads like that.

WTF was a truck doing up there?

How about don't go on trails without a significant lift kit?

Ford or Toyota should send a truck to pull him out. It would make a great story/commercial.
About 20 years ago, a semi was bringing me some lumber on a house I was building. It had rained recently and it turned all the sand and clay into a bog.
I hooked up my little Tacoma 4x4 to his front bumper and gave him just enough of a nudge to get him out. I have a picture somewhere, probably on a flip phone in a junk drawer.
I know, CSB. But, I think I'll see if I can find it and post it.

If I had me a mildly off-road capable midsized truck I'd berry it so deep in loose rock at 14,000 feet whoever could it pull out would be called King Arthur.

They'd better hurry up or they'll be waiting until next July.

It has been recovered
quote:
On August 27, 2023, Colorado 4x4 Rescue and Recovery received a call to recover the (now infamous) GMC Canyon located on Mt. Lincoln/Decalibron. The Subject was driving up the trail, seemingly not realizing it was not a road, but a hiking trail. The trail continued to narrow and ultimately the passenger rear wheel slid off the trail. The driver hiked down to Alma from the vehicle and CO 4x4 RnR scheduled a team to run this mission. Due to the vehicle's location, we coordinated with the USFS and Park County Sherrif's Office to ensure we had all of the appropriate authorizations to run this mission. The mission was then scheduled for 8/30. Tuesday morning, a team of 8 volunteers converged on the stuck vehicle. Due to the narrow trail, bringing more than 1-2 vehicles up behind the vehicle was not feasible. The truck was located at high elevation, off-camber, and in a scree field, making anchors a challenge. The team attempted to place a pull pal anchor in different locations several times but were unsuccessful. They were eventually able to maneuver the vehicle onto several traction boards, and then made the decision to attempt to drive one of the recovery rigs around the stuck vehicle to be able to conduct a pendulum recovery (rescue vehicle—SV—rescue vehicle; rescue vehicles using combination of equipment and winches to “swing” the SV via a “pendulum” back onto the trail). The team was unable to successfully fit the recovery rig around the truck. After a long day working at high elevation and running out of daylight, they decided to abandon the recovery for that day and return another day with a different plan. CO 4x4 RnR continued to work in the background to develop a plan to recover the vehicle that would minimize trail and resource damage. We scheduled a second mission for the following weekend, during which time the subject reported that he had contacted commercial tow company to attempt to recover the vehicle.
We were advised that the truck had been recovered on September 1, after spending 6 days on the trail. Overall, our team put in a total of 132-man hours and drove a total of 1,480 miles to assist the owner of this vehicle. We are very happy to hear that he was able to get it off the trail safely.

Per a FB post by the Colorado 4x4 Rescue and Recovery group, the truck has been removed by a commercial tow company, apparently by using a skid steer.
The volunteer group detailed their attempts to do so first but were obviously unsuccessful.

Did he put some kitty litter down? Do that and he should be able to pull right out.

I found my old go-pro footage of doing that portion of Black Bear Pass but it’s not linking correctly.
ETA screen capture of the part I described. We did it on a rainy day.

None of my toys, Side x side, Jeep, 4-wheeler etc are equipped for rocks. My bucket list is Moab, UT but I’m not about to take my own rigs out there. I’ll rent something properly equipped for that stuff. But after seeing this, I don’t think I’ll tackle anything close without someone familiar with doing it. Looks fun but costly for a dumbass from Louisiana.

I have some sympathy.
When I was right out of college I spent two nights camping next to a car that we got stuck taking a mining road to go see wheeler geologic formation. Finally a family from Oklahoma on four wheelers came by, and the father was able to help tow us out of our mud prison with his ATV.
There is no doubt in my mind it was the highlight of that guy’s ATV’ing career.

Probably Riverside in Baton Rouge. Those frickers will figure out a way to tow you no matter how or where you are parked.
