There's a level of evil in this world that I'll never understand

I found out today that my former boss's wife went nuts and killed their 25 year old son then herself. He left the company back in December for an opportunity that was too good to pass up from what he told me. Really good guy and I really enjoyed working with him. I met his wife several times too and never would have guessed she was bat shite crazy.
The story we are getting is that she had recently filed for divorce, no idea what led to that. But she was texting him and telling him that their son had turned into a piece of shite like him and she was putting an end to it. She shot their son and killed him, then took a picture of the body and text it to his dad and told him she would see him in hell, then killed herself.
I can't wrap my head around what would drive someone to such levels of evil. This has really been messing with me this evening and I feel terrible for him.

Maybe she found out he was cheating, filed for divorce and then was so heartbroken that she decided to hurt him on the way out....just a guess. No excuse for that type of action.

That is most certainly evil, but there were lots of times in this worlds history, where that kind of stuff was normal. We've come a long way since.

people like that, when backed into a corner - they lash out and do so violently.
It's a final act of emotional manipulation, take something away that they know is important. I've seen people do that shite to pets even. Then they hurt/kill themselves as yet another act of 'control.' and anyone who knows borderline, narcissistic, and antisocial people know how fricking batshit they get when they don't feel like they are in control of things.
this is well beyond 'he was fricking his side piece and got caught and she filed for divorce and was suicidal while also wanting to hurt him.' because in such a situation she'd be more likely to simply find and shoot her husband and the son wouldn't even enter the picture.
Nah, in my opinion her final message reads like some borderline + narcissistic BS.
