I have two cats that are incredibly needy. its fun but the meowing at my door at 5 AM gets a bit tiring

And that's why they are smarter than cats. My dogs want attention and have a lot of energy, but they wear themselves out by chasing squirrels in the back yard and wrestling each other. And them frickers are smart. They frick with each other like siblings do. One of them knows how to get the other one worked up so if she is laying down and don't want to play with him, he will try each one of the things that he knows, will work her up, until she reacts to whatever one works her up that day.

They understand words (I think it is the tone more than anything, but there are some things they will hear me say in conversation and they expect me to do certain things after hearing me say it). Cats just sort of do things whenever they want.

I don't even care about how dangerous pitbulls are. They're ugly. You want an intimidating dog for protection, get one that looks good. Rottweiler, German shepherd, etc.

I've never heard anyone say pits are ugly. Mine gets a ton of compliments.

And if you want an intimating protection dog. Get one that was originally bred for protection. The breeds you named were, pitbulls weren't. Training them as guard dogs makes them dangerous and possibly unstable. Pits were farm dogs that were bred to protect crops and livestock not somebody's stereo.

I gotcha. Socialization with cats is important. But that's more about developing personality. Best cats I've ever known, were raised in party houses as kittens.
