Now, the Royal Society for Public Health in the UK hopes to make that decision easier by introducing activity labels to help people think before they eat.

quote:

As a rough guide to the new system, here are some examples:

A chicken and bacon sandwich with 445 calories requires 42 minutes of slow running.

A chocolate bar with 229 calories would need 22 minutes of running.

Add a medium mocha coffee with 290 calories and you’re running for 28 minutes.

In all, that’s more than an hour and a half on the treadmill.

“It might make you think twice, ‘Should I put them away or should I maybe be a bit more active?’” Stephenson said.

I wonder what the label would be on a Popeye's chicken sandwich.

I dont understand how people get so fat, how can you look in the mirror and accept being thouroughly out of shape. By no means am I in some kind of great build, but even if I feel like i'm starting to drift out to the deep end I'll get back to where I want in no time.

A big problem are these fat people who are famous that act like there is something special about looking like gelatin, when the only special thing about it is greater risk of diseases and early death.

How much running is a full tombstone pizza and 32 oz of whole milk?

Got to love how governments like to enforce expensive regulations like this on companies under the false assumption that consumers simply don't know that the food they're eating is fattening.

Most people know. They just don't care, and there are increasingly fewer incentives to care.

Because wit doesn’t happen over night and often times not over even a year, but years and very slowly.

Also you make excuses to start exercising like “I’ll start Monday” but Monday comes and another excuse stops you.

That’s how

Correct. There's always a push for more education but think about it...

- People have known cigarettes are bad for you for decades: people still smoke

- People have known that unprotected sex can lead to STDs and unwanted pregnancies: people still do it

And on and on. People just really don't care and will only make a lifestyle change if/when they decide to do so.

I saw an article about how India has a public health crisis with people shitting in the streets, water supplies etc. So these humanitarian non-profit groups went over and brought a bunch of port-a-pottys and toilet paper and taught them all how to not shite in the streets. Guess what happened when those groups went back to the small Indian villages after 6 months? The toilets were unused and people were shitting in the street.

Exercise does not combat a poor diet. The key to weight loss is to eat healthy and exercise. That motivation doesn’t come from a label telling you to go for a run instead of eating a donut.

I appreciate their concern, but this won't help.

You can always tell when a poster is young. You got a lot to learn young man. Some people have health issues before they get fat because that horrible back/knee/neck from that "accident" made them less active. But you said it right. You said in your first few words that "I don't understand." Also, look up the word thyroid as it relates to fat. Look up diabetes which is mostly genetic. Do your research skinny boy.

WTF is slow running? Jogging?

How about just do what the hell you want to do and not let the govt tell you what to do.

Yesterday I ate four (4) glazed donuts. Not even lying.

Sorry for partying.
