It is exactly this. Everyone with a brain who listened to Andrew Yang for 5 minutes was able to predict *exactly* what is happening right now,

You mean the guy that's going to get like 10-15% of the vote in a liberal haven?

Those are crummy jobs. Of course nobody wants them.

Office jobs can take their pick of the litter.

This mentality is part of the problem. Young people simply too spoiled to endure low-income or manual labor jobs to get started in life. For generations, these jobs were a right of passage.

You wouldn't think trucking would be one of the more dangerous professions?

And now, they're bitching because those same people decided "frick this" and refuse to work low skill, low wage, no benefit jobs because they're tired of being undervalued

Were these individuals actually being undervalued? Or were they low skill workers? If the people who aren’t going back to work at these low skill jobs had marketable skills, there are plenty of available jobs out there offering more than the unemployment benefits, but those jobs aren’t being filled either

Ok, now consider they only give you 25 hours and week and no benefits, that 16/hour doesn't sound quite as nice now

Having been an unskilled worker early in my life I made it a point to avoid restaurants because of the terrible pay, terrible customers and terrible employers who don't care about you. Seems like more people have finally figured out that's a terrible way to make a living and found other means or have decided to go ahead and actually retire.

nailed it.

We also must remember that most people will take less money to stay home. Its usually not enough to pay more than the UI benefits, which is why you are seeing these cash bonuses.

This highlights a problem. People don't want to pay their dues to learn a trade anymore.

Sounds like the problem is with the companies not being willing to make adequate investments in their employees

Its a beginner job, or a stoner job. Doesn't require skill, they don't care if you were fired from your last job.

the 100k extremely low skilled workers flooding our southern border each month probably wouldn't mind taking those jobs if allowed. but that's a whole other problem and a whole other debate.

Most people here wouldn't last a day working in a lot of busy restaurants. I know I wouldn't.

that’s you. i’ve worked much more physically demanding jobs before this career.

It’s exhausting, but not physically demanding. Trust me, I know. I worked in restaurants for 20 years either through school or as a 2nd job when changing careers. Exhausting carrying trays of food at top walking sped up a flight of stairs 25+ times in a night, but if you’re in decent shape you can do it even at 45 years old.

Physically demanding would be working a post hole digger all day in June. frick that. I worked for a landscape company for a summer month when I was going through a rough spot in life. That’ last physically demanding. Hauling plants and dirt, digging holes, all in direct Louisiana sun. Nah, I’ll go back to hurrying around with a tray of food any day and get pains twice as much in the a/c.

Yeah...go figure a job with low pay, no opportunity for overtime, menial benefits if any at all isn't going to attract people to stay long term.
