The WNBA has gotten so cute referring to themselves by a single letter, "The W"

The WNBA players and the former WNBA players that are 'analysts' on ESPN refer to themselves by a single letter, "The W". Never heard anyone outside of WNBA players ever refer to the WNBA as anything but "The WNBA", but it's precious they've started using a single letter to refer to themselves.
How did I notice this? Like any other time I've consumed WNBA content... it's because I had on ESPN watching PTI or Pat Mcaffee show, and then I got consumed on my phone or had work on my laptop, then all of the sudden I look up and realize that WNBA content has been airing for 30 minutes on my TV.... to which I immediately panic and freak out, then change the channel to not artificially inflate any of their TV ratings.
You're not getting a free view out of me because I got sidetracked and left on ESPN... not so fast my friend.

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago except it was ABC. Left the TV on for the dog, came home and she was watching The View.
Turned it to Fox News immediately before the dog became a damn liberal.
ETA: She already lives and eats rent free and sleeps all day. She might as well be on welfare.
