especially Venezuela.

Yeah, that was my first thought as well.

Aren't there a shitload of active paramilitary groups all over CentAm as well?

My friend in Honduras thinks otherwise.

Because our conflict is in the Eastern Hemisphere.

If we have no conflict, bring the troops home.

Just yesterday someone posted here that they saw an LSU fan and an Ole Miss fan fighting over which D-list sporting event they were going to watch at the bar.

The man said he saw it with his own eyes. One wanted to watch the US Open and the other wanted to watch the World Cup and things got edgy for a second. This world is out of control.

Hell we have an Opiod and Meth epidemic here at home in thr US of A, and I guess that doesn't count as any sort of conflict although it is destroying families.

99% pure crystal meth and the cheapest it has ever been along with heroine and fentanyl on the streets at high levels.

South America is a disaster these days

Today Chile is generally considered to have "developed nation" status. Peru has done very well since getting rid of the Shining Path thugs, with growth rates among the best in the hemisphere. Ecuador used to be Pablo Escobar's playpen but now they're doing much better too. I don't know if you consider Panama to be South American but they're doing great.

Plenty of Americans live there without any problems.

While I agree that the world overall is safer than it’s probably ever been, saying that the Western Hemisphere is conflict free sans Mexico is nonsense.

100 people have died during anti-government rioting in Nicaragua over the past couple of weeks.

El Salvador, Honduras and Venezuela have the three highest murder rates (per 100,000) in the world. Worse than any African or middle eastern country.

El Salvador is insane. Over a 100 people per 100,000.

Your grandparents are mistaking lack of knowing violence vs true numbers.
To support your claim....homicides per 100,000 in the US.
1980's was close to 11.
2010's is around 5.

It is more than twice as safe compared to 30 years ago.

It's just that everything is blown up and pushed through social media that it SEEMS worse.

Seems like Puerto Rico, outside of the tourist zones, is decaying significantly because of our lack of assistance.

Puerto Rico gets plenty of U.S. support. Unfortunately, they have a corrupt Government. It reminds me of Louisiana.

Not as much as you think they do.

I get your overall point, but it is sad one of the worst places to be— for a variety of reasons— flies the US flag.
