If you take the Cartesian product of these three with the wolf / sheep / sheepdog thing, you'll find that there are actually 9 types of men.

#2 is far more common than #3 from what I've observed. So #2 is actually the regular guy.

My perception of masculinity as a boy was that men were above all else supposed to be HIGHLY COMPETENT. For me, that meant technically and mechanically adept- able to work with tools and build and repair things, etc. The problem was that in a family of the mechanically inclined, I had no aptitude. So I began to see masculinity as meeting PHYSICAL CHALLENGES head on and excelling- particularly girls and sports. Then I began to see it as EXPLORING RISK - doing manly outdoor things that required courage. And then I saw it as being a PROVIDER. And all these years later I see it as being FREE and INDEPENDENT of the whims and expectations of other people.
For each man, I think this is different and there are far more than three “ types”. There is quite a gap between Audie Murphy and Richard Simmons.

I've got a teal-ish fleece vest I got on sale. Color usually don't matter to me if the price is right, though most of my clothing is black or white.

Same here. Perhaps age and not finding the need to gain the approval of dad or what society thinks is the driver behind that thought process.

4) The man who knows who he is and doesn't need nor allow anyone else's opinion to influence who he is. The guy who quietly enters a room and can assess who is a threat, who could be a threat, where the exits are and goes about business.
