I get my yearly bonuses deposited into the company 401k - that alone has netted me $42,500 over the last 10 years. Going to be a hard dose of reality for my generation when some of us start retiring and others have nothing in their bank accounts.

Wait until that democracy hits and the sheep vote to take that money.

Dow is closing above 50,000 today. Great news for us investors/savers!

They are the ones who will become the "you need to pay your fair share" people. Essentially your good decisions and hard work need to finance their bad ones.

That's what scares me more than anything.

But, the way I like to travel, I estimate I'll need 4M, so I just keep saving, as I'm nowhere close to that.

I had that panic moment with my finance guy about 10 years ago and on the call he ran some quick math for me and showed me the chart and said "you started early, and you're gonna keep contributing, you're going to be fine". The time value thing is incredible.

The average American worker has less than $1,000 saved for retirement, underscoring the financial strain millions could face in old age, according to a new report from the National Institute on Retirement Security.

That's why socialism looks good to many people.

Brutal. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

Last month I found a random savings account I started back in college that I thought I had transferred all over to a different account years ago. It had more than $955 in it.

This is the wrong approach.

I imagine being old is rough. Being old and hungry is even worse.

I think younger people are in for a world of hurt.At Walmart I see these young couples, maybe with a couple little kids with what I guess are few thousand in tattoos.Riding around, there are tattoo shops all over, vape shops every few miles, nail salons every few miles, fast food places and chain restaurants all packed.
My wife was talking about the young women where she works, don’t make a lot of money but they get their nails done regularly. All have new cellphones.
Know every eating place in town. Most have tattoos.
Not looking good from where I sit.

The bottom line is that if Americans are not saving for retirement through their employer, then they are probably not saving at all," the report said.

Simple solution.

Kill social security and let the people invest that into an actual account for them to use in retirement rather than the Ponzi scheme that is social security in its current form.

Stop paying $900 monthly on your Mercedes-Benz and $200 steak dinners and put some funds away!

You do realize that one of the few ways Congress can solve it, is to raise the age to 70

I can see a democrat administration taxing those that have saved in order to provide for those that haven't. Probably some type of social security by in offer. If you don't, then you'll be taxed a very high rate on your retirement accounts
