I spend time between NYC and Boston. I use Uber about 70% of the time. I would use it 100% of the time except that the cab system in NYC is probably the best in the country. As far as surge pricing goes, the app warns you before you request a cab that it is a surge time. Further, I have been using Uber for about year now and have never had a random charge.

In regards to Louisiana, the cab system in New Orleans is complete shite. I imagine that BR is not much better. Most of the non-United cab drivers in New Orleans are horrible. I welcome Uber to these areas and couldn't care less if it drove the cab industry into the ground.

ETA: I had a pre-med student pick me up in a C class Mercedes on Friday evening in Boston. He said that he was driving for Uber because he was bored.

yellow cab just isn't efficient. I would pay more for a service that will tell me exactly when they will get to me and I can track them...

With yellow cab how long am I suppose to wait outside? It's a terrible model, especially in a city that doesn't have enough cars to go around as is...

On the real, the problem with BR Yellow Cab is the following:

1. Half of your cabs dont have CC swipers.

2. The cabs arent in good condition. I understand balancing overhead but it's a bit ridiculous picking me up in something that smells like arse and the 80s.

3. Your dispatch isn't reliable. They don't network well with your drivers.

4. Everything in BR is incredibly spread out, thus a simple drive from central BR to LSU is like $25-$30 one way. I don't even want to know what the airport costs.

5. Enough cabs.

BR Cab system is about 10000000 times worse than Nola. You can actually get someone to pick you up in Nola... BR, it's a 50/50 shot.

Some people just never learn. You have a few options in BR...well 4 now

Call yellow cab and wait

Get to know a private driver and get picked up when you want

Use Uber

Of those 3 #1 would not be an option for me.

since they're all up in the local government with their little commission, which is tied to the cops, it wouldnt surprise me if they're all scared because this will mean less DWI busts, and thus LESS MONEY coming in from the friendly sheriff of nottingham tax collectors.

Look at how much they love yellow cab here in Baton Rouge

Two Yelp reviews. For the largest cab company in a city of 400,000 people. shite, the brunch place that opened last week down my street has more reviews. Those are probably the only two people who were lucky(?) enough to have Yellow actually show up.

Yes they may flat rate you but just hope they don't hit you with surge price that $20.00 trip will now be $125.00.

I've used Uber in cities such as DC, NYC and London and never had an outrageous fee. When I was in London the car picked me up from Westminster area which is about an hour drive (45 miles or so) to the Heathrow airport and was charged only 30 quid flat rate. Which is about $45 USD.

When I was in DC last weekend I took an Uber from Reagan international to the place I was staying at in Alexandria (20 mile ride give or take) and was only charged $18.

Last Sunday I flew into Uberless MSY and a cab ride to my car which was parked at a friends house in Bucktown (12 miles away) was $38 on top of that the arse bag asked if I wanted to leave a tip.

My friends called yellow cab for a ride on Saturday night from the Bulldog. Waited for an hour and no cab showed up.

You shouldnt have walked back inside the Bullldog. You are expected to sit outside on the curb and wait the entire hour because they are gonna just drive through and leave your arse if you arent outside whenever they decide to show up

If you are gonna pick up a cab anywhere in BR, that will be it, but still it's not easy. If you go anywhere besides 3rd street... Good luck!

Its awful. I can't wait till school starts back up and LSU students become Uber drivers and there will never be a reason for Yellow Cab again.

Let the OT detectives do their work and you will see it's not I.

You Uber fanboys will just have to learn the hard way. The hard working professional taxi driver will be here when Uber's illegal operation is shut down.

That's exactly it. So many drivers around the city looking for an extra buck. Gonna be amazing.
